I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the aging Aussie on his farewell tour but within a few minutes of the show starting my sides were sore from laughing.

Les Patterson was the first of Humphries’ characters on stage. Dressed in shorts and t-shirt and cooking his gourmet rissoles, he was a riot of vulgar anecdotes and plenty of toilet humour. Yes, he was near the knuckle at times and his spitting over the audience and dribbling into his food made me feel rather queasy but he was very funny and had the audience captivated.

Les’ brother Gerald made a short appearance too, a paedophile priest complete with electronic tag around his ankle. In bad taste maybe but also very funny.

The ghost of Sandy Stone was next up and the mood was quite sombre with a monologue that went on perhaps a little too long.

After the interval it was Dame Edna in all her sparkly glory, arriving on an elephant. Sharp as a tack with her audience put-downs and local jokes she was the star of the show without a doubt. The unlikely pairing she plucked from the audience to marry was genius and her gladioli filled finale was a spectacle in itself.

Overall, a fabulous show with one or two cringe-worthy moments and I’d say Mr Humphries is bowing out on a high.
