I am a huge fan of candles, and much prefer them to air fresheners and plug in room fragrances as they just feel more relaxing, luxurious and less artificial.
I was asked to review the Tranquil 3 wick scented natural wax candle from Murmur. Murmur is not a company I am familiar with, but their website details a range of fragrances and different candle scents as well as gifts and homewares such as bedsheets and towels. They are based in Northern Ireland and advertise themselves as a luxury brand at exceptional prices, targeted to those who appreciate simple designs and relaxed living.
The sign of a good candle, for me, is always when you can smell the fragrance before you even remove the packaging and the Murmur candle did not disappoint on that score! The delivery box in which it arrived was large, with plenty of bubble wrap to keep the product protected. Before I even reached the giftbox itself I could smell the gorgeous candle.
The giftbox is understated and classy in a neutral tone, and looks great as a gift.
I have to say I was surprised just how large the candle is; I measured the candle at just less than 12cm in height and the same for the diameter of the circular base. The translucent misted effect of the glass is really attractive as a room decoration and creates a lovely relaxed ambience when lit.
Within 15 minutes of lighting the three wicks of the candle the fragrance had filled our lounge. Whilst I do like lavender it can sometimes be overpowering, but this was not the case here. The balance with the bergamot and patchouli is perfect. The fragrance is noticeable but not strong or overpowering in the room so it does need to be placed centrally for full effect. The level of scent is ideal and well blended, and perfect in our home.
I have pets and I cook with garlic frequently so I like to use my candles to keep the house smelling fresh; I had the candle on for perhaps an hour and extinguished it to go out for 10 minutes and wow the smell was still amazing when I walked back into the house! It really is gorgeous and relaxing and I can see it becoming a favourite already.
Whilst I was kindly sent the Tranquil candle to review, there are other scents based on the themes of Harmony and Sleep should you prefer an alternative scent. Smaller versions of these scents are also available.
Whilst the full RRP of £65 initially seems a little steep for a candle, I have a small candle which is a favourite of mine and I happily spent £13 on it. The murmur candle looks 4 to 5 times the size, so relatively speaking it is a competitive price for quality. I have bought lower priced candles which either smell of nothing, or are so small they last just a few hours. The burn time is 55 hours so I am going to get a few weeks out of it hopefully.
As I am unfamiliar with this brand I wish the company would have added a few extra details onto the website regarding the product. I can see that the candle is 100% natural wax but I am unsure if this is beeswax or soy. Also, it would perhaps be useful to some people to know if the ingredients are pet friendly or vegan (I assume that the latter is not the case). This is a minor point, and I probably would not have noticed for the fact I am writing this review.
I like to buy candles as gifts and with Mother’s day approaching the current sale price makes this especially appealing, and most Mum’s love candles right? You have to appreciate the quality and look of this product, and you will be getting a real bargain if you order it now.
I would award the Murmur candle 5 stars out of 5.
