Ginger Bakers create handmade cakes, tray bakes and other baked treats. Based in the Lake District they use local ingredients and I was very lucky to be sent some cakes to try. After tasting a selection I will certainly be ordering more for Father’s Day and perhaps a few for myself too. We tried two of their products. The first being a Chocolate Stout Cake and the other a Mixed Tray Bake which contained six slices of different cake flavours.

Chocolate Stout Cake
The Chocolate Stout Cake is a 500g loaf which arrived unsliced in its paper casing and plastic packaging. Before even opening I could see how rich and delectable it looked. When sliced it easily makes six portions. The cake was extremely moist probably thanks to the local stout used in the recipe. The flavours was delicious and the cream cheese topping was the perfect addition to offset some of the sweetness from the chocolate. The cake is packaged lovely and the chocolate and stout combination is sure to go down a treat with the Dads.

Mixed Tray Bake Box
The Mixed Tray Bake came packaged in a cardboard box. Inside the cakes are split into two packages each containing three slices. The slices seem fairly small however these cakes are so rich that the portion sizes were actually spot on for us. Our box contained six different flavours which all sounded amazing. I didn’t know where to start. So we sampled them all over a few days. I was impressed with the flavour combinations. My favourite from the selection would be the Orange Cobble Crunch. Chocolate orange is a classic flavour mix and this also had chunks of honeycomb inside. It was so soft, delicious and felt like such a treat to eat. Another flavour that stood out was the Apricot, Pistachio and Lemon Thyme Crumble Cake. I was unsure of this at first with the mix of strong flavours, nice of which are usually my favourite. But I found it delicate and had a lovely crumbly texture.
There aren’t many foods more enjoyable or comforting than a slice of cake making it a lovely gift idea for any occasion. I often find it hard to shop for a Father’s Day present. It can be so hard to find something for the men in my life that also shows their importance to me. Ginger Bakers cakes are so delicious and delicately handmade they surely make for a heartfelt gift that hopefully you may even get to enjoy with the father figure in your life.
The Chocolate Stout cake is reasonably priced at £7.50 and is worth it for how high quality and rich this cake is. The Mixed Tray Bake Box retails at £13.00 which I think is fantastic for six cake slices.
