Canal Toys Slime Lava Review

I was delighted to receive Canal Toys Slime Lava through the post. I have a 5 year old and often purchase toys that are 6+ as choose toys that we can do together. Whenever I hear the word Slime it often sends shivers down my spine….. Slime in hair…. on the sofa…. In the carpet but this design was brilliant ….. Contained and trapped slime!

The instructions were great with pictures as you go through so I was able to see what I was supposed to do. Not going to lie, I do wear glasses but I did struggle with the size of the writing on the instructions and ended up having to take a picture of the instructions and zoom in. The instructions do state that adult supervision is required and this would in my opinion be to make sure they were following the instructions properly, but it’s also quite fiddly also and very difficult for my 5 year old to push the slime into the lava lamp.

I needed something to stand the lava lamp up in whilst we were filling it up with the clear slime so used one of the circular holes in the packaging to stand the lava lamp up in. This actually kept it upright and didn’t move so would recommend carefully opening the box so this can be done.

We did have an unsuccessful first attempt at the slime lava. Given the thickness of the clear slime, we found it very difficult to push the slime right into the end of the lava lamp with no air bubbles. This part was needed to be done by an adult as kids fingers wouldn’t reach. It’s almost like there needed to be a special tool included in box to help with this. We were expecting a bit more of a reaction from the slim in the lamp than we got.

The Slime Lava is one of the lower priced slime based toys that Canal Toys manufacture so wonder if extra parts are included in the more expensive items. It would have also been nice for the slime to come in a reusable bag so after it has been used it can be stored in the correct way.

Our son really enjoyed playing with it but did expect to see some reactions quicker than was seen. This may be because he was under the age limit for the Slime Lava. We expected to see more reactions than what we were seeing even after a couple of hours.

It was packaged so securely in a strong plastic bag which although couldn’t be recycled, I will use again. There are recycling instructions in French on the packaging “elements d’emballage a separer et a déposer dans la bac de tri” which translates that packaging can be separated and sorted into the correct bins. I did recycle the cardboard and plastic packaging keeping the lava lamp and coloured slime into recycling and put the clear slime into landfill. It would be good to have instructions for the UK as it feels these boxes etc should be recycled.

Rating: 4 out of 5 – I would definitely buy this for gifts for other children. Like I said, it’s “contained slime” so would feel comfortable giving this as a gift, however we did find it fiddly and we didn’t get the desired lava lamp affect that we thought we would.
