This three piece cookware set is very solid, being cast iron. Each item is both oven and hob safe. They can be used on all types of hobs; electric, gas, induction and solid hotplate. They are oven proof up to 260° Celcius, which is higher than any dish I normally cook in the oven!

These pans come in the colour I received, which is a lovely, deep red (and you can see from the photos that I am a fan of red accessories in my kitchen so these fit right in) They also come in black and grey, for those who prefer more traditional kitchen tones. The griddle pan is 24cms and the pots are 22 and 28cms. The 28cms one is low walled, so both actually have the same capacity at 2.5 litres. The low walled one is ideal to fit on an oven shelf and still allow another shelf or multiple shelves to be used to cook other items. The size means they are fine for a family for a standard meal. On occasion, when making a casserole, I like to bulk cook and these are not big enough to do this in. On the website they are described as; ‘hardwearing and robust’, which I agree with. However, with a slight caveat that they do come with a warning that if dropped they may break, as cast iron can be brittle.

The big advantage of these for me, particularly for the casserole pots, is the ability to cook items on the hob and then transfer them to the oven in the same pot. A good example is browning off meat on the hob and then adding the vegetables and stock to move the casserole to the oven to cook.

The casserole pots are also a good size for general cooking on the hob. I was a little concerned that the inside, being cream, might stain. However, I cooked bolognaise in these and was pleasantly surprised that the pot did not end up stained orange (I don’t know why the making of bolognaise seems to create an orange colour to the sauce that often stains things but I’m sure other parents will know emphathise on this point!). Of note at this point is that these items require hand washing and cannot be put in the dishwasher. This isn’t an issue for me as I don’t put any baking trays or some utensils in my dishwasher.

These items arrived in sturdy cardboard, well packed in extra cardboard inside the boxes to ensure that the items arrived safely. I was surprised that each item turned up separately, but maybe that’s easier due to the weight of the items. They are also available to buy individually on the website, although the 3 piece set offers a discount compared to buying them separately.

The only parts of the items that aren’t solid cast iron are the enamel coating and the stainless steel knobs on the casserole dish lids. It’s important to remember that the handles of these items will get very hot in the oven so require the use of good oven gloves to pick them up.

These could make a great father’s day gift, or gift for another occasion, if being bought to wrap them before passing them on. Otherwise, the box they were delivered in said what the contents were with a delivery sticker stuck on the box, so wouldn’t be ideal to send directly as a gift.

Blackmoor started in Liverpool in 2016, initially just selling pans. Their website states part of their mission as being; ‘…we believe that cooking should be accessible to everyone… we have taken inspiration from how today’s typical family live, work and eat together, using this knowledge to produce cookware that performs to a high standard without costing the earth.’ This is true when compared to competitor’s prices, of which similar sized Le Creuset items cost well in excess of £100 each, versus getting all 3 of these items for just under that. They currently sell cookware, knives, food prep items, bakeware and homeware and plan to expand further.

I’ve only been using these for a short time to do this review but they seem really hard wearing. For such versatile, solid, well made and nice looking cookware, the price is very reasonable. They also offer free delivery, with no minimum spend, which I expect would be quite expensive otherwise due to the weight of these items.

Rating: I rate these pans a very solid (excuse the pun) 5/5

RRP is £106.97 but currently on offer at £99.99 here;  (remember that this is the final price due to free delivery too). If you are new to their website then you can enter your email address to receive a 10% discount code off your next order, which would bring this set down to £89.99
