Extra Mature Lighter Cheese

Pilgrims Choice Extra Mature Lighter Cheese contains 30% less fat than their regular extra mature cheddar because it’s made with a blend of skimmed milk and full fat milk. It is still matured for at least 12 months and still has a strong, tangy taste making it a delicious, healthier alternative in pastas or a good old fashioned cheese and pickle doorstep sandwich.
Pilgrims Choice Extra Mature Lighter Cheese is a little crunchy, crumbly and very, very moreish and is a perfect all-rounder as it’s ideal for slicing, grating or just nibbling when raiding the fridge.
I personally used the Pilgrims Choice Extra Mature Lighter Cheese in a baguette with piccalilli, melted it for cheese on toast with a touch of Worcester sauce, added it to my lasagne sauce and melted it on the top and for the days I just fancied a snack, I cut off a slab to enjoy as it is.
I absolutely love cheese and admit I have an unhealthy obsession with it which means I eat it at least once a day so I was a little unsure about a lighter cheese as some of them are a little bland or have a slight rubbery texture but I have to admit the Pilgrims Choice Extra Mature Lighter Cheese was still extra mature, smelt good, rich, creamy and had a lovely tangy taste to it. I honestly believe that if the packet didn’t tell you that it was lighter, you would never know but don’t just take my word for it, this cheese took Gold in the lighter choice category at the 2012 National Cheese Awards.
Pilgrims Choice Extra Mature Lighter Cheese gave my lasagne a lovely rich, cheese flavour and was the perfect flavour combination to go with my old favourite, piccalilli. I will definitly be buying this cheese again, not only because it’s 30% less fat but because the flavour is not compromised, it tastes great and is so versatile.
