We have been looking for sometime for a suitable ball pond for home for the babies in our family. What type do you get, solid surround, or soft? Big small medium? How many balls?

We have three grandchildren age two and under and they are all different. Some like to sit with books, one likes to dismantle my homes in quick smart record time and the other can take or leave most of the toys that we have. Nanny Day Care is every Tuesday and today they all arrived to find the Nuby Children’s Jersey Foam Ballpond age 10 months plus. Honestly, I don’t know why I didn’t get one ages ago, we haven’t stopped laughing for half an hour. All three kids are throwing themselves in and out giggling lots. I am hoping they will wear themselves out picking all the balls up that now almost cover the whole of my living room floor. I can see this is going to provide hours and hours of fun.

My initial reaction when I picked up the product was how on earth is a ball pond in this box! The Jersey surround is vacuum packed and it’s amazing how quickly it pings into shape. The soft grey fabric over the course of a couple of days fell into the correct round circular shape. I was really impressed as when I removed from the packaging I was thinking no ways is this going to do the job. Personally I think the soft jersey surround is much better suited to little ones. We have two eighteen months olds and a two and a half year old. The way they are throwing themselves in and out, the soft sides are perfect. No rebound injuries which I think may occur with a rigid sided type ball pond, the type you find in play centres. They I personally think are more for age five plus.

The height of the sides is just right, they are more than able to throw themselves in, and scrambling out is more than doable. Once the surround had settled into shape we filled with the balls provided. Herein lies my only grumble. 200 balls are provided, but they definitely aren’t enough. Possibly if your little one is just sitting up this is ample balls, but for my toddlers, we needed more. As far as I could see Nuby don’t sell top up packs, which is a shame, think they are missing a trick there! We sourced some additional balls (thank you Mr Amazon) and it was good to go.

I wish we had had one from probably aged six months, as the kids are enjoying massively. The bonus is if you pop all the balls in the vacuum bag provided for the surround, the whole thing is easily packed away when the Grandchildren go home, which is a win win for us. I am not so sure Grandad agrees, but I am delighted with the quality and the enjoyment it is giving our grandchildren. If you are looking for a Christmas Gift for your little ones I would definitely recommend this ball pond, hours and hours of fun to be had, and worth it just for the giggle factor watching them create chaos with hundreds of multi coloured balls, such a simple concept, with a fab fun factor.
