Mother’s Day is just around the corner and the shops are full of traditional chocolate or floral gifts. If you fancy gifting something different however, or you have a real foodie in the family then how about an edible savoury gift for a change. Italy is renowned for its fantastic produce & the Artisian Olive Oil Company sell a fabulous section of products both from Italy and other Mediterranean Countries on its easy to browse website:

https://www.artisanoliveoilcompany.co.uk. Contrary to the name, the Artisian Olive Oil Company doesn’t just sell olive oil, but a large selection of products including vinegars, dips, spreads & snacks and pantry items such as pasta & sauces. They also have two sections perfect for gifts, build your own hampers, with empty gift boxes starting from £5.00 where you can add whatever product you like from the website, and pre-boxed gifts. The pre-boxed gift selection includes gorgeous olive oil gift boxes, organic harissa selections, and the product I was sent to review, the Due Vittorie Oro Balsamic Vinegar of Modena Gift Box.

The Due Vittorie balsamic vinegar comes in a smart looking black & red box with a cut out front showcasing the bottle. Inside the bottle reminds me of an old Spanish brandy bottle, a flat shaped bottle complete with sealed cork. The bottle is classily branded with gold and red writing and design and would look great on any worktop or dining table. This Italian balsamic from Soliera, a municipality in the Province of Modena in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, contains only two ingredients, 80% cooked grape must and 20% wine vinegar, nothing artificial is added in production. The Artisian Olive Companies website states, “It is a full bodied balsamic which spends time in oak barrels which favours the transfer of tannins” and it certainly looked dark & rich through the glass bottle. Due Vittorie is one Italy’s most respected balsamic vinegar producers, with Oro Balsamic Vinegar winning a great taste award in 2018 from the Guild of Fine Foods, so I could not wait to try it.

Coming in a 250ml bottle and needing just a little per use, as the flavour is quite intense, the balsamic is good value for money at £20.00 per gift boxed bottle, especially as they are currently offering 20% of your first order if you subscribe to their emails. We tried it neat, straight on salads and as a dip for breads and also as a dressing. It was delicious mixed 50:50 with a good olive oil and used on salad and lean meat. I will definitely be decanting some and mixing up a bottle of dressing for my store cupboard. Used neat a few drops also gave a delicious taste to strawberries and raspberries as it has a sweet but acidic taste, fabulous with a gooey meringue on the side.

Balsamic Vinegar is a must for a healthy lifestyle as it is rich in antioxidants thanks to the high concentration of polyphenols naturally present in grapes. They play an important role in strengthening the immune system & slowing down the aging process so if you are going to buy a bottle, go for one of the best in the market, Due Vittorie Balsamic Vinegar of Moderna. It is easy to store, it just needs to be at room temperature, and lasts a long time. I found the Artisian Olive Oil Company’s website easy to browse and the selection of produce a delight, perfect for any discerning Mother whether your budget is a single item or a fully blown hamper there is something for everyone.
