Locker Days Bundle Review

Reviewed by Allison Bretherton
I was intrigued to receive a bundle of goodies to review from “Locker Days”, a company I had never heard of before. What I discovered was a lovely idea, guaranteed to put a smile on a teenager’s face this Christmas (and that takes some doing!).
Locker Days is a very niche company, which specialises in providing accessories for school lockers, currently specifically for girls, although I guess there’s always room to widen the market…
“Don’t kids decorate their lockers themselves anyway?” I hear you ask. Well, yes, they might try to personalise their locker in small ways, like putting up a photo of their favourite singer, or similar. But Locker Days have “gone large” on the whole idea of personalisation, providing all the kit a girl needs to give her locker a complete makeover, without damaging the structure in any way. (This bit is important, as most schools will have rules about what students can and can’t do to equipment.)
To appreciate Locker Days products, you first have to get your head around the idea of the locker as a personal space for a young person. In a hectic day of school or college, with constant noise, demands and deadlines, the moment a student opens their locker, for them it is like a miniature version of opening their bedroom door. To see familiar accessories, they have chosen personally gives the teenager a sense of calm and belonging. So think about the locker as a tiny shrunken bedroom, and you will get the point! Just like you would decorate a room, Locker Days lets you make the locker lovely, with ‘wallpaper’, ‘carpet’ and so on.
So, let’s talk about the actual items in the Locker Days bundle. First of all, the packaging is very attractive and simple. Plan brown cardboard and sturdy brown paper encase each item, sealed with a round sticker. All the packaging is recyclable and eco-friendly.

The first item I looked at was the Faux Fur Carpet in mink colour. This measures approx. 30cm x 40cm, which I guess is the standard footprint of your average school locker. The faux fur fabric is beautifully soft, not scratchy at all, and just stroking it will make you feel calmer! So that’s your base. Next, I looked at the ‘wallpaper’ set, which consists of 3 sheets of coloured paper (lots of fun designs to choose from online), cut to size to fit the back and 2 sides of the locker. These can be fixed in place using the 16 magnets provided in the same box (the magnets are plain, black, circular, about the size of a £2 coin, but you can use the Locker Days decorated stickers provided to cover them).

Next, I opened the magnet set, which consists of 6 door messages on circular magnets. Each magnet has a gold background with an uplifting message written in white, e.g. “Hello, Gorgeous!” and “Smile!” I was mystified by one which said, “On fleek!” I am told it means ‘flawless’ or “perfectly executed”. (I do wonder if that one might quickly become outmoded though, since teenage slang is constantly updating!)

The final item in my bundle was a set of 3 little glittery clothes pegs, with a magnetic backing strip. The idea is that you can use these to pin up your own photos or pictures inside your locker. The pegs are well made and look quite sturdy.
Overall, everything in the bundle looks classy and well made. The Locker Days website has the entire range of accessories, including mirrors, folders, and pen pots, plus a brilliant “Design your own locker” feature which lets you try out different looks.
I think this is great gift idea for any young girl this Christmas (I would say the ideal age range is 11-14, as pupils normally start using lockers in Year 6 in the UK). Teenagers really enjoy customising their surroundings and belongings to reflect their personalities, and the Locker Days products help them to do this in a fun and positive way.
