I was interested to review Parks and Recreation as I am not a big fan of American shows but I do like Amy Poehler, who is the lead role.

Unsure of what to expect as I had no pre-knowledge of the show or the actors beside Amy, I was pleasantly surprised at how the show gripped you from the onset and the characters and storyline was easy to understand and become involved in. Another concern I had was that the show was filmed like a documentary and I have issues with single use cameras as they can make me feel dizzy but this held no problem for me.

I enjoyed Amy’s character Leslie and she quickly become my favourite I liked watching her relationship with Mark who is the city planner she works with as she tries to turn a pit in a playground which he doesn’t want to happen, it is interesting to what their feelings develop as they felt against each other. I also liked the character April who had a very interesting back story going on as the show progressed and I liked to see how she handled it whilst new challenges were thrown at her.

After series one I did notice a change in Leslie, from reading online I read this was due to her being classed as dim and ditsy in the first series, I didn’t feel this way so it was a shock to witness the change but Amy is a wonderful actress and was able to pull this change.

There is a good range of different characters and storylines going on at once so you will never become bonded. The characters are easy to like and the storylines are easy to understand but still hold some shockers. I was very impressed with the show and plan to watch and buy the rest of the series.

Parks and Recreation comes as an 8 Disc DVD set (46 episodes) and is available now. Season 4 will be available to buy on DVD from 13 January 2014.
