Tee-Up
Reviewed by Stuart Douglas
This device allows you to tee up your golf ball without bending down, ideal for those with lower back or knee problems.
The device has a handle and trigger at one end with a round shaped clamp to hold your ball and tee at the other. The handle and trigger also has a loop which allows you to pick up the Tee-Up with a golf club without bending down. It is easier than I thought it would be to use, you hold your ball and tee between the clamp jaws and pull the trigger to secure them into position. You then just need to push the tee into the ground and release the trigger and your ball is now sitting on the tee ready to play. This is what can only be described as a pogo stick at the end which provides some resistance when pushing your tee into the ground. I thought that when you had released the trigger and were removing the Tee-Up away from the ball and tee it would be quite easy to knock the ball from the tee. The information on the web does tell you to practice removing the Tee-Up from the ball before you go out onto the course. It was very easy and I never once knocked the ball from the tee, both my 6 year old son and I used it with ease in windy conditions and on uneven ground (very important judging by the condition of my courses tees!!!!) without any problems.
There are only a couple of minor downsides, firstly the item is rather big, and if you have club dividers in your bag it will not fit in. I carry 14 clubs and I struggled to fit it into my bag. Northcroft do sell an attachment for your bag for carrying but looking at the size of the attachment and my Ogio bag , with its multitude of pockets and large brolly holder, the only position I could possibly fit the attachment would mean that the Tee-up would be rubbing against my back when carrying my clubs. However, the item is designed for use for people with bad knees/back and they would likely be using a trolley and possibly with a larger bag which would result in my slight complaint meaningless.
The second issue was that I could not get a consistent tee height when using the item; again this could be overcome by using a castle tee. I am not a fan of these I will admit and a good addition would be some sort of locking mechanism on the pogo stick that would only let you put your tee in a certain distance resulting in a more consistent teeing height.
Overall I would give it 4 out of 5 but if the item allows you to get back out onto the course with your bad knee/back you would certainly give it a 5.
