Last night we were at the Sheffield City Hall to see comedian Frank Skinner in his Man in a Suit tour.
Sheffield City Hall is in the centre of the city and as such has no direct parking. They do offer a discount for a local secure car parking which is a short walk away for £3, otherwise there are plenty of car parks in the local area, we paid £2 for parking for 4 hours which I think is cheap for a city centre.
The city hall is a beautiful building, with fountains surround it, on entering the hall the vestibule is decorated nicely with well signposted area. There were plenty of staff on hand to help out. The main hall has a classic high ceiling which is beautifully decorated. There are numerous kiosks for drinks and snacks and there is downstairs bar for further refreshments. We enjoyed a latte and hot chocolate and this cost £3.60, they were very small cups but very nice drinks. There were also refreshments offered during the interval such as ice creams and sweets, these were quite pricey with a dairy milk ice cream costing £2.50.
The staff at the box office were pleasant and helpful, with helping us find our seats. They provided us with two tickets for seats which stood alone in the stalls at the front right hand side to the stage. We went to find our seats and to our surprise there were no seats there! There were the evident fixing to which a seat would attach but no seats! We returned to the box office and they organised the seats to be reinstalled, explaining that they has previously been removed as lighting and other equipment was going to be there but this changed. The comfortable seats were installed in no time and the staff were again very helpful.
The show began at 7.30pm with a support act by the name of Gareth Richards. He did a set of 30 minutes including classic stand up and incorporated unusual musical instruments into this. He gained good laughs and warmed up the crowd nicely, however I would not be inclined to watch a show of his own.
There was a short interval prior to Frank Skinner coming onto stage and he was welcomed with a good applause. His material was funny, entertaining and personable. He covered many topics, which appeared to appeal to everyone. He had some crowd involvement which always got good laughs and he managed hecklers in a unique way. He was all that we expected and more, not only funny, intelligent and entertaining but also very down to earth for such a celebrity. He was very likeable and I will definitely be looking out for further shows and would suggest others do the same.
Over all I would give the show 5/5 and I think it was good value for money.
Frank Skinner and Man In A Suit is touring the UK until 21 December 2014, for more information or to book tickets at a venue near you visit www.frankskinnerlive.com.
