Playing games together has always been an integral part of family Christmas since I was a child, now with my own children we always buy some new games as Christmas Gifts that we can all enjoy playing together over the Festive Period. With the massive choice of games available these days, it’s hard to know where to start sometimes, so when I was asked to review the Slapzi game from Moose Toys I was very happy to check it out. Slapzi is billed as the “fast-matching, card-slapping, everyone-laughing picture game” so I was hoping it would live up to this, as having everyone laughing during a game is always the desired outcome.

When Slapzi arrived I was impressed that there was no excess plastic in the packaging. The game comes in a sturdy bright green cardboard box which is visually appealing. On the back of the box is a picture of the cards, and a short description of how to play. Inside the box there are 90 picture cards, 60 clue cards and two instruction leaflets. I was impressed at the size and quality of the cards; these are very colourful and glossy. I also like the fact that the clue card is printed with the same clue shown facing both directions, so players on each side of the table always have the writing the correct way up (and avoids players having to read upside down).

Slapzi is aimed at children 8 years and over. The instructions were very easy to understand, and there was no set up required. The game was very quick to learn. Each player was dealt five, double sided, picture cards. Each card depicted photographs of a whole array of different objects from animals to food, and everything in between. The clue cards are put in a pile face down in the centre of the table. To start the game the top card is turned over and players have to match the pictures on their cards with the clue.

When a player finds a match, their picture card is slapped down onto the clue card. They then turn over the next clue card and this is repeated until one player has played all five of their cards. They are then the winner. The whole game lasted around about five minutes, so my children happily played several rounds in a row. The game kept their attention throughout. In my opinion Slapzi will be a great game to get out on Christmas Day with the family. Up to eight players can play at a time and I think it will be universally appealing to all ages.

There are also some alternative ways of playing Slapzi on the second instruction leaflet, however we have not yet tried those as we wanted to perfect the original gameplay first. These will hopefully keep the children interested in the game for a longer period as we try different ways of playing in the future.

Having had a quick look at the Moose Toys website, I can see that Slapzi is also good for you as it helps to develops “fast reflexes and sharp minds” and boosts cognitive speed and agility. It’s also lots of fun, and laughter is great for you too.

I would highly recommend Slapzi as a great Christmas Gift, it’s good value for money, fun and engaging. Slapzi will definitely be making an appearance in our house over the Christmas period.

Slapzi is available to buy from a range of retailers.
