For our family, motion sickness in our little one has always slightly and rather sadly, overshadowed the excitement of travel and adventure and it is such a common issue, especially in children. All the repeated movements sending confusing messages to the brain resulting in the unpleasant symptoms of nausea, dizziness and vomiting and the pleasures of an adventurous journey well and truly spoilt. We have tried many treatments and preparations over the years, which always seemed to come with a trade off – over the counter medicines were fine but the drowsiness – not so great, no books, games, only looking forward! In the end, a bucket or sick bag simply came with us everywhere we went – a sure-fire way to suck all the spontaneity and fun out of an adventure!
And so, when we were offered the opportunity to review the Sea-Band Nausea Relief comforting acupressure wristbands for kids, we jumped at the chance!
The Sea-Band story is both intriguing and inspiring. Starting off as a website and building up as an online community and safe space for anxious and adventurous travellers. Together, the Sea-Band Nausea Relief wristbands were designed to offer a low-cost, clinically proven, natural and effective choice for motion sickness relief.
Importantly, the Sea-Band Nausea Relief wristbands come with no side effects and are extremely cost effective as they can be used repeatedly or worn continuously and handwashed using a mild detergent. Reassuringly, research at the University of Pittsburgh. using Sea-Bands acupuncture on post-operative patients showed a 10% – two-thirds reduction in the incidence of nausea.
The Sea-Band Nausea Relief knitted, elasticated wristbands are supplied in a pack of two – one for each wrist and come in a very neat, small plastic case. The bands we reviewed came in two groovy, patterned colours – pink and blue. They are designed to apply pressure on the Nei-Kuan acupressure point on each wrist by means of a plastic button, which should be positioned downward over the Nei-Kuan point.
We followed the instructions and put them on our 3-year old before the start of a long journey. We were wondering how she would feel about wearing them but they were very well received – most importantly, they really do look cool and fun in their bright, patterned colours! They are designed to fit very snugly around the wrist to work and taken off at the end of the journey.
So far, so good, but the big question was – would they work? For us, the Sea-Band Nausea Relief wristbands have been a gamechanger! Whilst before, even the shortest car journey could end up being an ordeal, since wearing Sea-Band wristbands, travelling with our little one has been absolutely plain sailing! We now take them with us where and whenever we travel and have started recommending them to all our family and friends! We’ve also bought some spares, just in case – thank you, Sea-Bands for our miracle bands!
