Rocketbook Everlast Fusion Review

Reviewed by David Savage
Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, except when it comes to buying gifts! Especially for men! If like me, when asked what I want its always “nothing” or “I don’t know” as I can never think of anything that I want or need. So buying me a gift can be a bit of a challenge. Socks and smellies are just boring, and to be perfectly honest, I buy enough of them throughout the year so why would I, or any man, want to receive them as a Christmas gift?
I love tech stuff, but that can be very expensive, and I wouldn’t expect anybody to spend a fortune on buying me something so extravagant. So, with Christmas looming, it’s time to start thinking of what I would like and what would make a good gift this year, especially for men, and I think I have come across a great idea.
In a world where we are trying to recycle more and reduce waste, an endlessly reusable notebook sounds perfect. I always have a diary/planner in my bag and although I love tech I still like being able to write dates and notes on paper as I find it so much easier to access to see what I have do and what appointments I have (I don’t have to worry about charging devices and flat batteries that way). Obviously, this creates wastepaper. While this can be recycled it would good not to create waste in the first place. That’s where the Rocketbook Everlast Fusion comes in and is an excellent idea – a paper solution for a digital age.
The Rocketbook Everlast Fusion is a 30-page notebook that offers a classic pen and paper experience. What’s so special? Well, while you write on the paper pages with a page they can reused endlessly, can be connected to cloud services and requires no battery or power – it is totally unplugged!

The Rocketbook has a calendar, planner pages, dotted graph pages, lined pages and is supplied with a Pilot FriXion Pen and cleaning cloth. There is also an app that can be used in conjunction with the Rocketbook that scans and delivers the pages as PDF files to your email or cloud storage space such as Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive and others.
So, does it work? Yes it does. The pen is comfortable to hold and while the pages are not exactly like paper and have a very smooth and slippery feel to them, the ink goes on smoothly and with no smudging. Once written on the ink does stay there.
The Rocketbook doesn’t like excess heat, so no leaving in direct sunlight or next to a radiator as it will cause the ink to fade or disappear. If this does happen, you can recover your notes by putting the Rocketbook in a freezer for 20 minutes and the ink will reappear.
It is recommended that you clean the pages every month as ink left on a page for longer than this could leave a residue. This means that the Rocketbook shouldn’t be used for permanent notes (but you can store copies of the pages digitally using the app).
The Rocketbook app is very simple to use. Once installed on your phone, any pages that you want to keep digital copies of the app will quickly scan them and send to your email or cloud storage with ease in PDF format. You can even scan pages into bundles. This ensures that any notes that you do need to keep a record of are stored digitally, which then frees up the page(s) in the notebook to be reused.
Cleaning is simple, you just need to use a damp cloth to wipe the ink away (the pen also has an eraser on it to erase simple mistakes).

Overall, this is a great little notebook with the qualities of pen & paper and the ease of digital storage. There is quite a bit of space to add diary entries, notes, drawings etc. I would have liked some contact numbers pages/address book, but these can be written in the notebook on the lined pages if need be.
Even though I have a Samsung Note 9 with a pen that makes adding notes my phone really simple, I do prefer pen and paper and the Rocketbook offers the best of both. The Rocketbook has a larger writing area than a phone screen but the app means I can store the entries on my phone anyway. With the Rocketbook its like have a dry erase board in your bag, and just as simple to use.
This would make an excellent Christmas gift for lovers of technology as well people interested in trying to reduce wastage. As the pages are erasable it should give years of use and the digital storage should mean that you never lose your important notes (as long as you remember to scan them of course). Available in two sizes, Letter (close to A4 size) and Executive (close to A5 size), and four different colours (Infinity Black, Atomic Red, Midnight Blue or Neptune Teal) the Rocketbook is perfect for leaving in your bag or on your desk.
