I was very lucky managing to have tickets for the opening press night of Rock of Ages at the Milton Keynes Theatre. Upon arriving we couldn’t miss groups of people all dressed up for the occasion in fancy dress outfits from the 80s. The atmosphere was buzzing and after a warm welcome at the theatre we took our seats which were situated in row K of stalls, they were good seats and I noticed the theatre was very full, not many spare seats in sight!
The entire cast were brilliant and performed amazingly especially Stephen Rolley (Drew) and Cordelia Farnworth (Sherrie). Would definitely recommend this show, if you like 80’s rock music or a great night out at the theatre.
There was lots of laughter from the audience and it does not profess to be a serious musical. Its great fun and very cheesy, with lots of rock n roll so you can let your hair down, sing and clap along to the music and lots of laughter is guaranteed with cheap jokes. Great costumes and set, so well done the creative team. The band was very pleasant to listen to and the whole show was choreographed very well and cast vocals were good.
Great entertaining storyline which was illustrated really well. I would consider taking my daughter to watch this in a few years’ time which would give her a taste of what music and fashion attire/life was all about in the 80s. Rock of Ages ends with ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ which had the whole audience on its feet singing and clapping, my favourite song was ‘We Built This City. It was very obvious the entire audience loved this show as there was a standing ovation at the end!
A very entertaining and fun musical.
Tickets cost from £12.90 to £38.90 (plus £2.85 transaction fee).
