Newport born Sharanne (parents made it up!) Basham-Pyke (born a Basham married a Pyke) – mother, wife, businesswoman, entrepreneur launches her first novel in lockdown ‘A Slice of Life – women babies’ cakes’.
Compelled to write a book when she observed how quickly women were categorised as mumsy, or business-like, or a ‘natural’ when women are multi-faceted, Sharanne looked to challenge these orthodox perceptions as motherhood brings out all aspects of personalities. Starting the book over a decade ago, lockdown provided the opportunity to self-publish, which has since seen sales (eBook and print) in the UK, Australia, Canada, USA, and Europe.
Available from amazon, A Slice of Life provides a heart-warming, humorous easy read following the story of four women who meet when expecting their first babies. Despite covering some serious social topics like anorexia, infidelity, mortality, the story shows a strong friendship built through shared experiences. Alarmingly honest discussions, rude language is sprinkled with humour and heartache, alongside their love of recipes for cake. The book provides full recipes of the cakes baked as the characters overcome tears, and celebrate triumphs and can be found on the Slice of Life fan page on FaceBook – #sliceoflife #recipesharing #recipeshare.
Hard-working, feisty and a cancer survivor, Sharanne was born and raised in Newport, South Wales where she returned after travelling in 1988. When most people are considering retiring, this 58-year-old entrepreneur continues to successfully run her own change management company – Shad Consultancy and is CEO of Talkflow, a performance management methodology.
