I am a very active person and love being outdoors. You will regularly find me out on the fells, rain or shine and in the dark winter months we still go out after tea as the darkness means you get an amazing view of the stars. Therefore, I was thrilled to be asked to review a pair of Kymira IR50 Sport leggings as I knew I would get a lot of wear out of them.

When they arrived I had a quick look on the Kymira website and was quite fascinated to find out that they are more than just a pair of ordinary black sports leggings – the IR50 range is designed to boost your recovery and keep you training hard, day in day out. The leggings incorporate Kymira’s unique infrared technology which promotes blood circulation, increases oxygenation of the blood and promotes cellular metabolism. This increased rate of removal of lactic acid from your muscles, and improved rate of cellular repair and production reduces the impact of delayed onset muscle soreness and other associated aches that you can experience after pushing your body to the limit. My legs normally ache after a long walk or run so I was very keen to see what the Kymira leggings were like to wear and whether they really did make a difference. Climbing up the fells can be quite tough, the hill we go up regularly is very steep and hard going, so much so that people use it for training for tough mountain marathons. We’re not quite at that level but we do keep a record of our times and are always pleased when we manage to shave a few minutes off our best time. The real test of these leggings would be to see whether we could improve on our best time.

The leggings are black with a “K” logo on the left leg, they have an elasticated waistband with the Kymira name in the elastic. The waistband is very comfortable, it doesn’t dig into your waist and stays put all day. The flatlock stitching on the leggings means no rubbing or chafing and having worn these all day on a couple of occasions I can confirm that they really are very comfortable to wear. I was really impressed at how well they stay up, some leggings have a tendency to work their way down your body when you walk or run and you need to keep hitching them up but I didn’t need to do any pulling up with these, despite wearing them all day. The label inside the leggings refers to them as a base layer however they are definitely suitable for use on their own or underneath walking trousers when it is really cold. They are a good length, I am 6’ tall and they were just the right length on me. The leggings are available in sizes 8 to 16 and the sizing was spot on, I received the large leggings which were a perfect for me as a size 12-14.

The fabric is breathable and fast drying so perfect for me as we seem to get wet quite regularly on our walks. When I wore then on a particularly wet day my legs didn’t feel cold and they did dry quite fast once the rain finally stopped.

I first wore the leggings for a walk on the fells, it was a very cold day and they kept my legs lovely and warm. I liked the compressive fit and they felt really supportive, especially around my knees when I was going downhill. We did our normal 4 mile walk to see whether the new leggings made any difference to our speed and we managed to complete the walk 2 minutes faster than we normally do so I think they really do make a difference to performance. It will be interesting to see if I continue to improve over the next couple of months. I have noticed that my legs don’t feel as tired, especially on walks over 10 miles so that was fantastic. I have worn the leggings for fell running as well as walking and they really are the most comfortable leggings I have ever worn. Looking on the website they also do cycling gear so I think I will be looking at that next.

I have washed the leggings a couple of times and they have washed really well.

I am really impressed with these leggings and I am looking forward to seeing how much my performance improves over the next few months – who knows maybe you will see me on one of those mountain marathons in the future!!!
