Being cold seems to be very popular at the moment. I’ve watched Wim Hoff extolling the benefits of exposing your body to sub zero temperatures in his new television programme and I’ve read lots about the health benefits of wild swimming. I’m too much of a softie to do either of these things but when I was asked to review the Cryo Ball I thought this is a cold skin treatment I can handle.

Cryolift treatments are available in salons by trained professionals using shots of frozen CO2 but the Cryo Ball is something you can do yourself while relaxing at home. The Cryo Ball is made of medical grade surgical steel and keeps cold for a long time, the steel spheres are in a plastic holder/ handle so they can be glided over your skin without getting your hands cold. The balls can be easily removed for cleaning.  They have to be placed in the freezer for 24 hours before use and that is the only preparation needed.

After freezing the Cryo ball for the required 24 hours I wiped away the visible ice and following the instruction that came with the product I started to roll the balls over my skin. The instructions recommend doing this for 5- 8 minutes. I set a timer just to be sure I used it for the correct length of time. It was very cold and without the timer I may of been tempted to stop too soon. I followed the diagram on the instructions and kept the balls moving all the time. It was very easy to use but I didn’t feel that the balls rotated as smoothly as I had expected, they seemed to stick frequently causing my skin to drag a little. For optimum results it is recommended you use two cryo balls in unison. At the end of the treatment time my skin was a little red but glowing and seemed invigorated just how it does after you get back from a walk on a very cold frosty day.

The cryo balls can be used with or without a facial serum. For this review I used the balls without serum , for six days I used them every other day. Looking at my skin at the end of the trial period I can see that the red patches I get on my nose and checks are slightly less, the fine lines on my neck have slightly improved and overall my skin looks brighter and fresher. I’ll definitely keep using them. It’s so easy ,no fuss, no mess, you can do it while your watching TV. One of the benefits given on the web site is “to aid allergy relief” so I’ll have it ready to use it when hayfever season starts.
The cryo ball is available from young LDN.com priced at £90 for one ball, postage is free in the UK. It is a considered purchase but one that will last a long time and much cheaper than salon treatments.
