These are a low boot a few centimetres taller than a regular shoe. The uppers are made with genuine leather and a rubber sole – perfect for a return to school.

First thing to note was how quickly these were delivered once ordered; and sent via DHL who provided me with excellent communication and options to alter the delivery. This was perfect for this time of the year for when we are busy heading out and about.

The shoes have the classic green/red opposites, tag on the side of each shoe as well as a spot on the heel, no mistaking the iconic brand. Along with these markings as expected there is a leather tag hanging from the laces proudly displaying the Kickers logo.

There are 5 inlets, each with Kickers markings and the laces also thread through the tongue (Super handy to stop it sliding to the side and getting lost inside the boot). We did find that they had to be opened really wide the first few times they were worn as the leather was ridged, but once on and laced up they fitted easily. The soles are stitched to the uppers which suggests that they will last and not end with the too often experienced splitting of the sole at the front; also supported by some tight gluing in areas where weaknesses often occur. The stitching together of the boots also looks really strong and reassuring for their longevity. Additionally, there is some stitching on the boot, which is attractive and provides additional style, we particularly liked the squared toe styling.

The leather was fairly stiff for the first few wears which we made sure were done inside so that it had chance to mould to the foot. Once this process was done over a few hours around the house the boots were super comfy.

An unexpected bonus was to discover how dry these kept feet in the rain. They are not designed or advertised as waterproof, however, are certainly up to the job of walking to the bus stop as we head into the wetter winter months.

As the sole slightly overhangs the main boot it looks like these boots will also be able to stand up to the slide-in tackles of the breaktime football matches on the gravelled playground areas – no shoe is going to stay scuff free completely, but I have high hopes for these! It also looks like they will polish up to hide the scuffs well.

Having teenagers and supporting them through the navigating of school life can be particularly tough. Being able to provide a pair of school shoes which are acceptable to the school’s uniform policy and to their friends and peers is a minefield, but I think that these may well have cracked it. We also liked that they are non-gendered so designed for anyone who wants them!

The boots are more expensive than we usually pay for school shoes, however these look like they will last the year of trips and kicks and won’t need to be replaced at the end of the term so likely will work out cheaper in the long run. Additionally, they are fairly roomy and with the leather softening and moulding to the foot so quickly, I hope we will get longer out of them before we need the next size up.
