Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod Review

Reviewed by David Savage

Not being a great photographer anything to help taking pictures easier is a must so I was delighted to receive the Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod in black (MTPIXI-B) for review.

Manfrotto is a world leader in photography and video accessories and their products are excellent for professionals and amateurs.

The PIXI Mini Tripod is available in 4 different colours and I received it in black, which would have been my chosen option. The PIXI Mini Tripod is suitable for use with cameras with a ¼” screw thread; Compact System Cameras, DSLR with standard kit lenses, Compact Cameras and using the optional extra TwistGrip can be used with Smartphones (you can read my review of the TwistGrip here).

The PIXI Mini Tripod measures 18cm when closed, 13cm when opened and is very lightweight, weighing in at around 190g, making it an ideal portable tripod. It can hold a camera weight of 1kg. Made of aluminium and technopolymer is very well made.

Fixing on a camera is simple, just attach the tripod with the screw fixing to the base of your camera (most cameras will have this screw hole fixing). The tripod can be used, as the name suggests, as a tripod that sits on a flat surface or for handheld use for video. The legs open to a 45° angle making it very stable on a flat surface.

Once the camera is fixed you can tilt the camera, if desired, up to +/- 35° by pushing and holding the bright red button on the side and positioning the camera to the desired angle and then releasing the button to lock into place.

Once you have your camera angle set and positioned where you need it you can then start taking pictures that are steady, no shaking hands. For me it meant I started using the timer function for the first time ever.

Now as I mentioned earlier it is also great for using to take video, turning the camera in a much easier to use and control handheld video camera. With the tripod legs closed the camera is much easier to hold and I found it much easier to get a better shot and no need to worry about thumbs over the lens etc.

Overall I found the Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod to be an excellent quality, well-made and designed portable tripod that is easy to use and small enough to take anywhere with you and when using as a handle for taking handheld video is very comfortable to hold. With a RRP of £24.95 I think this is excellent value for money.

Whether you are an amateur or professional photographer this is a quality bit of kit that every one that owns a digital camera should have to make taking photos easier with more stability.

I can highly recommend it.
