My partner and I had purchased shelving from BIGDUG before, so were delighted to be selected to review a Father’s day mega deal consisting of a garage and shed shelving unit, garage flooring set and 6 x 10 litre clear plastic storage boxes with black lids. The company sells all kinds of storage solutions with a simple mantra of offering the best storage products to bring order and efficiency to their customers’ space.
We are keen to improve our garage space and add a semblance of organisation and this is how we initially came across the company, whilst seeking a means to actually find what we need in our garage without wading through the clutter. It had stacked up so easily since moving in a couple of years prior and so we were keen to make this into a more usable space.
As part of the delivery we received a large box and a smaller light weight long box. The long box contained the metal shelving and on taking it out there were instructions available to guide you through. My partner took around 30 minutes to put it all together, with some man faffing in between. As with our previous purchase from the company, the shelving was really simple to put together, not requiring screws, bolts or nails, just a mallet to help things slot together nicely. That said, whilst handy to have to help in building, we could put it together without it. You start by building the frame and then slotting the shelf supports together, finally inserting the chipboard shelves and it’s as easy as that. There are 4 shelves and these are adjustable so you can put them at heights to suit what you’re storing on them, with the ability to easily change this at a later date due to the simple assembly. We noticed the shelving also has the ability to secure to the wall, which is a nice touch for safety, although it’s very sturdy already so this wasn’t necessary for us. Once built, the unit holds up to 100kg per shelf and as you can see from my photo I’ve got a lot of paint on there with no bowing. It’s also a great size for putting next to a work bench to store all the tools and knickknacks along with drills and various other bits that have accumulated over the years, keeping the surface of your worktop free. The unit itself measures 148cm height x 75cm width x 30cm depth.
The set also comes with plastic boxes that are transparent so you can either label or see what’s within. These are also stackable, so as you can see from the picture there are a number of ways you can position them comfortably. The Marie Kondo part of me loves how neat and tidy this looks and I no longer dread going into the garage to try and locate something as everything of importance is clearly displayed.
My partner was particularly chuffed with the garage flooring set as it’s great to use whilst doing other DIY projects, it’s comfortable to kneel on, unlike the cold hard floor of a garage. A nice touch is that this interlocking set of flooring tiles are supplied with edging strips so you can position them flush to a corner. Altogether this set measures 120cm x 180cm and would also be good to use for a gym workout area. I believe this is also wipeable although we’ve not yet had the need to do so.
For those that always find themselves wading through their various items in a shed or garage, this is the perfect solution to get them on their way towards a more organised life. My dad has a shed that’s packed, he can’t find anything he actually needs and this is the perfect gift for fathers day that I’m sure my mum would also appreciate. It’s also a great height that means he can easily reach all its contents. Altogether the set is really practical for the man in your life. .
