Me and my daughter visited Brighton to see the Birmingham Stage Company production of Horrible Histories Incredible Invaders at the Theatre Royal in Brighton. We traveled into Brighton by train which was cheap and convenient and very easy with the theatre a short 10 minute walk from the station.

The show tells the story of how England was invaded by different countries and uses live actors and special 3D effects. It plays out the history with great humour with funny characters with silly names making a normally boring subject for some children into a fun and interesting subject that they are more likely to remember. Some of the characters included the ruthless Romans, vicious Vikings and the savage Saxons.

This show I found appealed to adults and children and I found it funny as well as informative. In the second part after the 15 minute interval you were given 3D glasses to wear. This part was played by actors but had a 3D screen playing behind and the effects were amazing, the best 3D I’ve seen, it made me jump a couple of time especially when a boat was floating down the river towards you and it feels like it comes out into the audience.

The show is around 1 hour 40 minutes and held the attention of my daughter the whole way through and I felt she came out knowing more than she did before, I know I certainly did. There was singing and dancing and singing to join in with, along with lots of loud cheering to see what side could cheer the loudest. My daughter and I had such a great evening.

This is only my second trip to this theatre and it’s lovely, it’s fairly small but very grand with friendly and helpful staff and located near some nice restaurants. Another nice thing was upon arrival in the Foyer was a table laid out with Saxon and Roman artefacts; one of a brick with a dogs paw print and another of a key that’s just as good as the day it was made plus more.

Definitely a great evening out.
