I was very excited to be chosen to review Some Guys Have All The Luck, the story of Rod Stewart as I have been a fan of his for years and have been lucky enough to see him on many occasions.

We arrived at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable and parked in the free car park which is situated just behind the theatre. After a very short walk we arrived at the theatre foyer. It was very busy and had a great atmosphere. Everything in the theatre is easily accessible and there are signs so show you where you need to go. We collected our tickets from the reception area and were told which side of theatre we needed to be at to go into the auditorium. We went to the very busy bar and after waiting only a couple of minutes, were served by a very pleasant and helpful member of staff. We were shown to our seats, from which we had a brilliant view of the stage.

At 7.30pm on the dot the band opened the show by playing snippets of Rod Stewart hits, then ‘Rod Stewart’, Paul Metcalfe, arrived on stage to rapturous applause. I was pleasantly surprised how much he looked and sounded like Rod Stewart.

In the first half of the show, as well as singing a lot of Rods’ hits including Handbags and Gladrags, You Wear it Well and Find a Reason to Believe he told the story from the beginning of how he started which included lots of photographs which brought back some lovely memories not only for me, but judging by the applause, a lot of other people too.

The first half finished and we went to the bar, which was very busy, but we did not have to wait long to get served.

We then went back in for the second half of the show ‘Rod Stewart’ and his band, which was made up of a lead guitar/vocals, bass guitar, pianist and drummer came out on stage, the audience were clapping and cheering. The second was even better than the first with even more singing with huge hits as Sailing, Hot Legs and of course Maggie May with which he ended a brilliant show.

The audience were up dancing and singing and the atmosphere in the theatre and the interaction with the audience was fantastic. If you ever get the chance to see this show I would thoroughly recommend it and give it a rating of 5 out of 5.

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
