Last week, my family and I were lucky enough to visit Hoo Farm in Telford and we all had a fab time!
The weather was great and the farm itself was easy to find. Just off the M54, and rail links are good however I’m unsure on buses as it does seem to be in a quite rural area (as you would expect for a farm).
We arrived around 10am and went straight in, there were no queues but during the morning and throughout lunchtime the farm did start to fill up and was noticeably busier by 1pm. The admission, I feel is fairly reasonable for what is essentially a farm: £9.95 for adults but only 45p cheaper for children! Under 2s do go free, however. They do have a clever little thing whereby all full paying visitors can return for free within a 2 week period. They also have a season ticket option.
Firstly we went and saw the owls which were beautiful! Then we followed the path round and came across the African Adventure where we saw the lemurs, servals and the giant tortoises which, rather amusingly, were mating at the time! Explaining that to the children was fun!
Next the alpacas, llamas and as we were there during lambing season, it was lovely to see the lambs! They have one born every day pretty much, throughout March/April. We also got to feed the tiny baby goats their bottles! Which was a wonderful experience – my 5 year old was enthralled with this, she loved it.
After all that we were all hungry so after washing our hands for the umpteenth time (there are hand washing facilities everywhere which is good) we sat down for a picnic at one of the many picnic tables around the children’s play areas which are great. Plenty on the play parks to entertain them. We didn’t sample any of the food so we can’t comment but the coffee was great!
After lunch we went and visited the parrots which talk to you! Then the snakes, frogs and bats in the River and Rainforests section. All were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed all the animals. The staff were incredible, you can see they work so hard with the animals and the staff handling the baby goats at feeding time were especially good. All so friendly and welcoming.
Overall we would definitely visit again – we thought it was a great little farm with loads to do. Good value for money and I will definitely recommend a visit to others.
I give the park 4.5 out of 5 stars. It only loses a half star as the little go karts that my daughter was desperate to ride weren’t working, which left an upset 5 year old.
Tickets cost: £9.95 (adult) / £9.45 (children 2-16 years) / £45 (family ticket – 5 people)
