On a day trip to Hastings after visiting Smugglers Cove we then made a short walk over to Hastings Castle which is the ruins of Britain’s first Norman castle. Unfortunately not much of the castle is left and most has been washed out to sea. There are a couple of information boards around telling some interesting history of what once was. The view was amazing up there well worth the walk up alone just for that, my daughter five thoroughly enjoyed climbing a few little steep areas and running through the little paths. There is not a massive amount to do and it takes maybe 40 minutes to explore.
There was a random white building in the middle that looked a little out of place it wasn’t until I got home and was reading a leaflet that I realised that the building is where they tell the 1066 story that uses projected images lighting and dynamic sound effects to recreate the famous Battle of Hastings so I was very disappointed that I wasn’t made aware of this when I arrived as I would have loved to have found out a bit more on the history of this castle.
The dungeons are worth a walk down there, they don’t go far but are well worth seeing and imagining who was kept down here years ago.
We parked easily on the seafront and although a steep walk it didn’t take too long there was a Cafe just around the corner from the ruins if you’re hungry as the ruins don’t have any food or drink for sale, so the Cafe is the nearest place. The castle is well worth a visit if you’ve never been before but I was very disappointed we didn’t see the film, a little expensive for what there is so probably best if you get the combine tickets to go to the Aquarium and Smugglers Cove on the same day which make a fantastic day out all as they are within easy walking distance of one another.
Tickets cost: £4.50 (adult) / £3.70 (child) / £14.40 (family of 4) / £18.10 (family of 5)
