Hape My First Balance Bike In Vespa Green Review

I was so pleased to be allocated the HAPE My First Balance Bike Vespa Green as I knew my son would just love having his first balance bike.

The bike arrived in a large cardboard box which was simple yet sufficient with no excess waste. The bike itself was then packaged in its own branded box which has photos of the bike in use and some of its key features. We were sent the green version which is a lovely shade of sage green and perfect for being gender neutral so I liked that there is this option. This bike design also comes in a pink or blue version as well. For me the overall design of the bike is great and looks very stylish with simple touches like the tan leather look saddle. The bike does require assembly before use, however this only took a few minutes so was not a problem at all. The assembly simply involves connecting sections of the bike and no tools were required so it shouldn’t put any busy parents off.

The bike is advertised to be light weight at 1.6kh and it really is very light to pick up. This is great for parents but also for young children who can easily manoeuvre the bike to where they want it themselves. For me it also provides a safety feature being this light weight, since if it fell over onto your child it wouldn’t cause any damage.

The bike is designed for 18 months plus and has an adjustable saddle and handle bar height aimed to allow it to grow with your child.  We did find the adjustability is quite poor. The seat could move forward slightly more as this was needed ideally for my 2 year old and the bike is aimed for 18 months plus. The handle bars also only adjust by removing them from the bike. The bike is 57cm in length and 41cm in height and takes a maximum weight of 25kg. Like many first balance bikes, it has 3 wheels to help improve its balance for your child, allowing them to develop their skills in motor movement and coordination without the risk of toppling over. Watching your child discover how to ride this is certainly a delight to watch.  The slide proof tyres have been designed to ensure floors are not scratched so we have mainly used this indoors around the house. The non slip handle bars also aid comfort and stability for your child. A further design feature here is that the steering is limited to 60 degrees to ensure that any young child does not over steer and cause the bike to tip or struggle to turn through over steering. I liked how this feature, among others such as the light weight nature of it, and easy to grip handles really ensure your child can have stress free enjoyment in using this bike.

Like many parents, keeping items clean easily is key for me so I was pleased that the bike, including the handle can simply be wiped clean.

Delivery from the brands website is £2.95 for most orders (and takes 2-5 working days), however is free for purchases over £40 which is perfect for this item so you can buy or send this as a gift without additional costs. I think this would be a great gift for your own or any child from 18 months old as it allows for so much indoor and outdoor fun!
