Gtech Hylite Cordless Vacuum Review

Reviewed by Debbie Talbot

My mum is now in her 70’s and struggles to use heavy vacuum cleaners. The cordless vacuum cleaner she had been using is less than ideal for her stairs and has been looking around for something smaller and lighter that is more manageable. She was therefore delighted when she received a Gtech Hylite – a very compact vacuum that can be stored in a drawer!

When it arrived, I couldn’t believe how small the box was that it arrived in, there was no way it could have contained a vacuum cleaner.

The Gtech Hylite is a 1.5kg upright, bagged cordless vacuum cleaner. In the box is:

  • Main unit
  • Battery
  • teering module
  • Telescopic handle
  • 3x replacement bags
  • Charger
  • Hair Removal Tool
  • Instructions

After unpacking, which didn’t take long, there is some assembly required – putting in the battery and attaching the handle, which takes seconds. A bag is already installed in the main head unit. She put it on charge (it takes approx. 2 hours to fully charge).

As I mentioned earlier, my mum wanted something smaller and lighter for doing her stairs and the Hylite is perfect. Not only can it be used an a lightweight upright cleaner, the handle can be removed and it becomes a handheld vacuum cleaner.

The vacuum cleaner has a telescopic type pole which goes down to really small. It’s so easy to attach and remove the pole. The handle is so easy and comfortable to grip. The base of the vacuum cleaner is a smart lime green and grey colour (there are 3 colour options to choose when purchasing; Green or Grey).

Being someone who struggles with heavy vacuum cleaners myself, I was pleasantly surprised at how light it is to hold, it only weighs 1.5kg, including the handle!

It has a generous runtime of 20 minutes, plenty of time to vacuum a few rooms with decent performance.

My mum has limited storage space in her home and this takes up so little space as the handle can be retracted and removed and the whole lot will fit into a kitchen drawer (you can even purchase a storage bag for it for £9.99 if you want to hang it on the back of the utility room drawer rather than waste drawer space). It saves having to find a home for a large vacuum cleaner in a cupboard.

The Hylite is so well made. I have had vacuum cleaners in the past which have not been robust and have not stood up to frequent use and the test of time.

This vacuum cleaner has made a big change to my mum’s life as it is so compact, light and easy to use. It is so robust too and I think will last for years. I am a big fan of anything which makes mine and my mum’s life easier on a day to day basis. I tend to go for practical over looks but this product gives you the best of both worlds. It looks amazing and so modern.

I was amazed at what short work the Hylite made of my mum’s living room. It really is so fast for light cleaning It’s been great for vacuuming her stairs too. Being able to use the vacuum cleaner as a handheld on the sofa will be an absolute godsend when her grandchildren come to visit, especially her 7-year-old twin grandsons. With other vacuums we have owned we have had to go over the same area a couple of times to get the desired result but the Hylite has tended to need just one go.  I love being able to recline the handle to make it easier to vacuum under the furniture.

It is a bagged vacuum cleaner and whilst the dust bag is not huge it is perfect for what mum uses it for and also the bag also acts as a filter, making the Hylite very low maintenance.  I was amazed that a pack of 15 bags can be purchased for just £12.99. According to the Gtech website, these should then last for over a year.  Gtech make their bags breathable and therefore environmentally friendly. Emptying the bag is so quick and easy. I was also interested to read on Gtech’s website that because the vacuum cleaner does not have a cyclone bin, which uses additional power, it is more efficient. I found out from the Gtech website that the Hylite has been designed to not become blocked easily. Any dust is collected from just 1cm from the floor and it is this process which helps avoid blockages.

My mum loves the Hylite. It is so light, compact and versatile (as a handheld you can even use it to clean inside the car). It even has light so you can see what you are vacuuming.

The Gtech Hylite would make a wonderful practical Christmas Gift for someone special in your life. I would recommend this item to others and Gtech in general. Having this Gtech product has been a real game changer for both myself and my mum.
