Puro Sound Labs PuroBasic Headphones Review
Reviewed by Louise Totton
We have got so used to everything being wireless these days, from our internet connections to the way we charge our phones and speaker systems in our homes. The kids have each got a pair of wireless Puro headphones which they really do love…when they remember to charge them! It doesn’t happen very often, but if they do run out of charge the kids can get very frustrated and more to the point, I end up with a headache as they seem to feel the need to out-sound each other with the volumes of their devices. So, if you’re the kind of person who might forget to charge their headphones or even if you just prefer wired devices and don’t want to have to worry about pairing and which tablet is connected to which set of headphones, having a good, basic wired pair of headphones is a must.
Because we have been so impressed with the wireless Puro Sound Labs headphones we have had in the past, they were an obvious choice when it came to looking for a wired pair for the kids. We were looking for similar features in a wired pair to a wireless one – we wanted them to be padded, comfortable, adjustable and, most importantly, sound limited. As I said before, both of the kids seem to have a habit of blasting their devices as loud as they possibly can, so having a sound limiter on the headphones is an absolute must for us.
I was delighted to see that the PuroBasic headphones from Puro Sound Labs ticked all of these boxes and more! They are sound limited to 85db as well as having a leather padded band and ear pads. They are fully adjustable and very comfortable to wear, but the features don’t end there! On the cable is a volume controller as well as mic and a button for answering calls (yes, it even operates as a hands-free set too!). The cable is a strengthened, braided one for extra durability and the 3.5mm jack at the end is the elbow type, which we find far more robust than the straight ones. The headphones even come with their own carry pouch for portability, and they fold up neatly to make them more compact.
Because they aren’t wireless, they require no setting up, charging or pairing at all – you plug them in and they work! Puro make these in blue, red, green and pink so there will be a colour for every child. We were sent the red ones and the kids both thought they were a lovely, bright colour. I have to say that I was really impressed with both the comfort and the sound of these headphones. They fitted the heads of the adults we tried them on as well as my 10-year-old and 7-year-old; I would suggest they would be perfect for any child aged 5 or over.
The sound quality they offer is crystal clear, and they are perfectly loud enough, even with the sound limiters. I feel much better knowing the kids’ ears are protected and both kids have said that they are really comfy to wear. They won’t replace our wireless headphones as we have got too used to being wire-free, but they are a fantastic standby for us and for younger kids, for whom you might not want to invest a lot of money in a wireless pair, they would make a fantastic first pair of great quality but inexpensive headphones. They would also be a fantastic addition to the Christmas list of a younger child, especially if they have been lucky enough to have received their first tablet this Christmas!
