Frankie & Benny’s Stockport Review

Reviewed by Lucy Knight

I am a real foody and love to eat out. I absolutely love going to Frankie & Benny’s, it’s one of my favourite American/Italian style restaurants. I find it really welcoming and the staff are always super attentive. I was delighted when I found out that I would be going to sample their new menu at the Stockport restaurant. We have visited here a number of times before and always had a good experience, so I was looking forward to the changes that had been made, hopefully they would be positive.

Our table was booked for 5.30 on Monday evening; I don’t work on Mondays so we decided to have a look around the shops before going to eat. We arrived to the restaurant around 20 minutes early as my 2 children were getting a little hungry. We were greeted by a really lovely waitress who showed us to our table and provided us with a highchair (I had forgotten to mention this when I had arranged to come, but it was no problem for her). She was really accommodating given that we were early, it was no problem for her.

When we were seated and had a look through the menu, it was explained to us that there were 83 new dishes on the menu and they had changed a great deal of things including the oil they use to cook with. I was quite surprised by this as it can sometimes be a great risk to change what we all know and love. However Frankie & Benny’s have not made a mistake. There was a vast amount of meals to choose from in the comprehensive menu, including; a great variety of breads and starters, a selection of Pizzas and Calzones, Mama’s classic pasta dishes, a hearty meat variety, a range of 100% beef burgers, fish dishes, some yummy chicken dishes, the healthy option of salads and an assortment of side dishes. The list was amazing, and it took my partner and I quite a while do decide what we wanted. In the meantime however, the friendly waitress brought us some soft drinks, while my two children aged 5 and 22 months played with their colouring packs.

When it was time to order we ordered a Classic Garlic Pizza Bread with Cheese to share. I liked the look of the Oven Baked Salmon which is a roasted salmon fillet with rosemary baby potatoes, buttered peas, broccoli, green beans and our salsa verde. However, after ordering I was informed that this was out of stock, so I chose my second option of Grilled Chicken Pitta, which is grilled chicken breast in a toasted pitta, filled with lettuce, mayo and your choice of BBQ Sauce, Louisiana Hot Sauce or simply chargrilled. Served with corn on the cob, coleslaw and golden fries. I asked for this with a jacket potato though as I am trying to eat more healthy. My partner ordered a half roast chicken served with golden fries, coleslaw and corn on the cob, with Black Treacle BBQ Glaze Sauce. My 5 year old daughter is obsessed with Peperoni Pizza so the waitress suggested she order a Junior dish, as she would be able to have extra toppings and would get a full pizza so we went for the margarita pizza with 3 toppings. My 22 month old son only has a small appetite but we decided to order him a Missy’s margarita as he loves finger food and it saved him stealing his sisters.

The food arrived promptly and just in time for my little monkeys who were starting to play up due to being hungry. My dish was lovely and the only problem was that I was missing the corn on the cob, I didn’t realise this at the time so this is why I did not comment. I wasn’t sure what came with it due to having to change my order and the menus were taken away so I could not refer back. My partners half roast chicken with BBQ glaze was burnt at the edges due to the way the treacle had set during cooking. He complained about this and the staff replaced it without a problem and the replacement was spot on.

The children’s meals were perfect and they both thoroughly enjoyed their pizzas, but did leave room for their favourite meal-dessert. I tried their pizzas and I have to admit they were delicious. I was stuffed so decided not to have another course but my family on the other hand always have space for a pudding. The children ordered off the kids menu a chocolate brownie sundae for my 5 year old and my son had fruit salad. My partner ordered the chocolate brownie fudge cake, all desserts were polished off and everyone was very happy.

Overall the food was really good, we had an amazing experience. The waitress and the manager who served us were very professional and catered for our every need. We had a lovely dining experience and would definitely return to this Frankie & Benny’s restaurant.
