Frankie & Benny’s New Breakfast Menu at Fort Retail Park Review

Reviewed by Victoria Linney

We arrived at the restaurant a few minutes before our reservation of 10am. It was very easy to park near the restaurant as although within a retail park, the car park is large and the restaurants are over to one side so you are not competing with shoppers to park, but also not far to walk to the shops should you wish.

We were greeted and seated quickly on arrival. We had a lovely booth which suited my husband, myself and our 22 month old (who thinks she is going on 13 and too big for high chairs etc.). Our daughter was also given a kids pack right after we sat down and she enjoyed the stickers especially. A lovely touch for children to help keep them occupied while they wait for their food.

The restaurant was very clean and had good lighting, not too bright but you could also see what you were eating and the others you were dining with easily. There was music on in the background which was lovely as you could still have a conversation with those you were sitting with but always nice to hear a bit of music too.

We thought that the menu offered a great choice of food and also fruit juices.  All the staff we met were very friendly and our daughter was given a balloon which she greatly appreciated. Our waitress was called Amy and she was extremely helpful and lovely. As I do not eat bacon I requested the Stateside stacker minus the bacon, our waitress was great and instantly offered that I switch the bacon for an alternative so I agreed to extra hash browns and ordered an apple juice. My husband ordered the Triple Stack Pancakes, orange juice and a coffee. You get free refills on hot drinks too. We ordered the Kids breakfast for my daughter.

It didn’t take long for our food to arrive. The portions were generous, especially the children’s meal which was £3.95. It included a sausage, bacon, fried egg, a good portion of baked beans and a fruit juice (apple or orange). Our daughter was very impressed and wolfed down all the bacon, half the sausage, quite a few beans and a bit of egg. She is a hungry 22 month but obviously couldn’t eat it all; I think this breakfast would be quite filling for older children too.

My meal, the Stateside stacker, consisted of freshly baked rosemary bread filled with double hash brown, cheese, sausage patty, fried egg and tomato ketchup. The bread was quite a heavy dough (as in felt weighty when you picked it up), however it tasted lovely and the consistency was not at all dense. I loved the sausage patty and although I am more of a brown sauce fan at breakfast the sweetness of the ketchup really completed the dish. I would recommend this dish and certainly have it again.

My husband had 3 buttermilk pancakes (which he said tasted as good as any of the ones he has had in the states), three rashers of streaky bacon and three fried eggs. The bacon had an almost candied effect which my husband loved and he loves fried eggs so the perfect brekkie for him. He did order a side of hash browns too (Hungry man!). The breakfasts were £5.95 each which I think was good value considering the quality of the food and decent portion sizes.

Our waitress Amy said she was impressed with how well my daughter had eaten and asked if she could give her a little packet of buttons, we of course said yes and Amy gave my daughter a mini packet of Milky Bar buttons. As you can imagine my daughter was super happy about that and just shows how lovely the staff are.

We were very satisfied with our visit to Frankie & Benny’s for breakfast and will certainly be returning. We would also recommend this venue to others, whether you have children or not it is a great place to go.
