Last night my mum and I had the joy of visiting the Grosvenor Casino in Salford in Manchester for the Elvis Tribute Night with Steve Storm. We found it with ease and as we drove there were plenty of parking spaces. It did have a sign saying that there was a 2 hour limit in place which worried me as I knew we were going to be here longer than that, but as we parked up and entered the casino we were met by a very pleasant receptionist who because we hadn’t been there before was sorting out our registration to the casino and told us that if we put our car registration into the device on the desk that the parking for the entire time we are there would be free.
I have been to another casino only once before but my mum had never been in side one so we were unsure of what to expect, but it was lovely, clean and well-presented and all members of staff we came across all seemed happy and friendly and eager to help.
After our registration was complete we awaited our host who was to show us around. Kevin was our host he was cheerful and friendly and was keen to show us the casino and explained how to play the games and the ins and outs of where to go to have our money changed into chips and vice versa if we won and wanted to cash out, he also showed us where the toilets were situated and the bar area and informed us that whilst playing the games any soft drinks including coke, lemonade etc… and tea and coffees were available free of charge, all we had to do was ask one of the many waiter/ waitresses that were around.
The casino was a good size with plenty of tables down in the pit to play, the more well know card games and roulette tables, all manned by well-presented members of staff. Around the outside of the main casino area were the electronic games which started from as little as 10p and there was a section for the slot machine style games, all the areas were clean with ample seating and gave a laid back atmosphere.
As we had a table booked to start off our evening, Kevin took us to the dining area and handed us over to Tracey who took care of us for the remainder of our night, she was very chatty and helpful and gave us our menu for the evening. As we were deciding what we wanted to eat Tracey took our drinks order and sorted that out for us while we gave the menu the once over, as we were there for the Elvis tribute night they had a set menu which gave a choice of around 4 starters, 9 mains and 4 desserts, all of which gave a wide variety of choice some suitable for vegetarians. We both decided on the salt and pepper chicken wings to start though the soup of the day (lemon and ginger) sounded really nice. We were so undecided over the main as we are both trying to eat healthy and follow a healthy eating plan and didn’t want to stray too far from this and Tracey could see we were undecided so came over to help and told us which she thought was the healthiest thing on the menu which was very helpful. My mum took her advice and went for the steak, I on the other hand was swayed too much towards the cheese and bacon burger, and for dessert we both chose the spiced apple tart as it had apple in and apple is healthy right?!
We placed our food order and was given our drinks and shown to our table which we were lucky enough to be right at the front and centre stage ready for the show later, my mum being an avid Elvis fan was more than overjoyed with the seating.
The dining area was a good size and nicely presented, they seemed to cater for any occasion with added decoration as there was a table next to ours all dressed up with balloons and table decorations.
Our meal came quickly and was hot and well-presented and we couldn’t wait to tuck in. Each course was served by the helpful waiting staff who all seemed attentive and happy to help with any request. We didn’t have to wait long between each course even, as the dining area started to fill up everyone still received great care and attention. The only problem we had with our food was the dessert my mum preferred her apple tart hot not cold as it was served but they were more than happy to rectify this, the table behind us seemed to have a few more problems and dietary requirements regards to their food and a dislike to meal they had ordered but again this was sorted with ease and the manager came and apologised and all were happy.
We ordered refills for our drinks and these came quickly, the bar prices were reasonable as were the bar snacks and choice of things available.
After our meal we decided to have a little flutter on the machines but even with being talked through how to play them earlier we were still at a loss as to how to work some of the machines, but we realised it was time for Elvis so we went back to our seat ready to enjoy the show.
Elvis (Steve Storm) came out to a roaring crowd and soon got into the swing of things and sang loads of Elvis’ well known songs all of which went down well with the audience which was full of both men and women of all ages. He gave a great performance with his powerful voice and I’m sure all the ladies were won over with his moves, and boy could he move! He interacted with audience at every opportunity and got them involved, his act was on two halves both which were around and hour long and he came back in the 2nd half with a costume change and sang to the audience and gave out his scarves to some lucky people in the audience, myself included much to my mums dismay. It was a great show and we would definitely look into seeing him again.
During the interval we used this time to refill our drinks, visit the toilets which there were 2 lots and they were both lovely decorated, clean and well-kept and well stocked with hand wash and moisturiser.
We decided to give the casino another try with this time a bit more luck and we came out a few pounds better off.
We had been here since around 6.15pm and even though Elvis wasn’t due to perform till 10pm we were worried that it was going to be a long evening but it passed really quickly as there was so much to do and before we knew it, it was gone midnight, definitely the signs of a great night.
Overall a great experience was had by all, and one we tend to do again, especially as they seem to do many tribute and celebration evenings, from murder mystery evenings to a night with the Jersey Boys, all including a meal, bubbly and a free bet for a great price ranging from £17.99 – £30, well worth the money.
