I’ve heard a lot of people talk about enjoying Kombucha but I’ll admit that until this week not only I had never tried any but I wasn’t quite sure what exactly it is. Therefore I was excited to receive the Remedy Newbie Taster Mixed Case as it seemed a great way to finally give fermented drinks a try as a complete newbie.
Remedy has a large range of drinks including varieties of Kombucha, Coconut Water Kefir and Switchel. The Remedy Newbie Taster Mixed Case contains twelve 250ml cans in six different flavours – four Kombucha, one Coconut Water Kefir and one Switchel however there are also more available. The cans didn’t arrive loose but instead packaged neatly in a small cardboard box. So perfect for wrapping up as a Christmas present.

So firstly if you’re a newbie like me and don’t quite know what these drinks are, I’ll explain. The Kombucha is a fermented black or green tea that often has flavours added to it. It is naturally sugar free so low in calories and it contains live cultures and is all natural. The Remedy pack contained four Kombucha flavours to try. I was a little sceptical at first. After all, fermented black tea doesn’t sound particularly appetising! I started with Cherry Plum flavour. I must say I wasn’t too sure about the smell when I popped open the can but it was surprisingly delicious! It had a really sweet, fruity flavour. I enjoyed my can mid morning when I felt thirsty after a workout and it was so refreshing and thirst quenching. The next flavour I tried was raspberry lemonade and this was probably my favourite overall, it just tasted like lemonade, a favourite drink of mine, but was a guilt free, healthy way of enjoying it. The other two flavours were Peach which again was fruity and delicious and Ginger Lemon which had a great fiery tang.

Next up I tried the Coconut Water Kefir which again is a fermented brew with live cultures but this time mixed with coconut water. It was so fresh and tropical tasting and I loved the fizziness of it. Finally there was a Switchel. I had no idea what this was either! Switchel is made from apple cider vinegar and ginger. I know again it may not sound appealing but wow it was good. The flavour included was Blood Orange and it was so sweet and tangy. I made sure to keep all of the cans in the fridge and they really are delicious served ice cold.

Overall I know they may sound unusual but they really are tasty, refreshing drinks and the cans are just the perfect size serving. The Remedy Newbie Taster Mixed Case would make a delicious gift this Christmas especially if you’re looking for a non alcoholic or healthier alternative. It’s perfect for Kombucha lovers or to introduce them to someone who’s never tried them just like me if you’re still looking for gift ideas.
