The towel arrived from the supplier in a brown paper outer wrapping and in a plastic bag inside.  The towel is a generous size at 73cm x 48cm and it is white with a grey check.  The material is 100% cotton which has been infused with copper ions to make it anti fungal and anti bacterial, anti microbial and anti odour.  The Copper Clothing website says Copper ions destroy 99.99% of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microbial.  When infused in clothing and kitchen towels, they can beat the growth of harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi and pathogens on contact, making the fabric anti-bacterial and anti-microbial.  Compared to regular kitchen towels, they are self-drying and do not stay damp to avoid the overgrowth of fungi.

It is describe on the Copper Clothing website as a kitchen hand towel, which has multiple uses including, drying dishes, drying hands, wiping down surfaces and as a heat resistant pad for lifting hot pots and pans, however it looks like a tea towel which would traditionally be used just for drying dishes.  The key feature of this item is that it prevents cross contamination.  The Copper Clothing website has a detailed description of the difference between kitchen towels and tea towels for those interested in this topic.

Before use I washed the towel as per the instructions which is on a low heat 30-40c and tumbled dry on a low heat.  The instructions also say not to use bleach or iron.  Washing fluffed up the fibres of the towel and made it feel much thicker.  Once washed I used the towel to dry dishes and found it to be very absorbent and did the job efficiently and it also dried quickly after use.  This is a practical item which because of its antibacterial properties is multi functional and does not need to be washed as frequently as other similar products, thus making it more environmentally friendly.  The website says Self-Sustainable: Copper ions are known to possess self-cleaning properties and help destroy bacteria like E. Coli, S. Aureus, and MRSA by 99.99%, reducing the need to wash it often.  This means less laundry, less water wastage, and happy earth!

For me the good points about this towel are the large size and just how quickly it absorbs moisture and dries out after use.  I have reservations on the suggested infrequency of washing although it is perhaps more environmentally friendly not to wash such a towel on a daily basis as I am used to doing.  I also have concerns about the multi usage and would not choose to dry my hands or wipe surfaces with the same cloth I use to dry dishes that I am going to eat from although I know that many people do use their tea towel for a multitude of tasks.  I find the price is expensive for a tea towel although less so if used as recommended.

If you have a keen cook in your family, who likes to try out alternative or unusual things, this could make an interesting Christmas gift.
