My childhood was filled with the infamous Disney stories including Cinderella and so when I had a daughter of my own, it was a perfect reason to relive all of the classic fairytales all over again.
Award winning writer, Mike Kenny turns the famous fairytale on its head, adds a few twists, some very clever lighting and 7 extremely talented actors, creating a fabulous, and in classic Octagon style, unusual version of Cinderella.
Whiskers, Teeth, Claws, Ears and Tail, a friendly cluster of rodent rats, tell the tale of Cinders, a down to earth girl turned pink princess. There’s the usual character roles such as the ugly sisters, the prince and the wicked stepmother, but in this highly creative version, it’s the rats that call the shots.
The audience immediately warm to the cast as they effortlessly switch between rats, narrators, musicians and various other characters. Add to that the cast playing a grand piano, an electric double base, vibraphone, a double base and tubular bells; it makes for a very energetic and entertaining stage!
Our out and out favourite members of the cast have to be Anne O’Riordan, aka Teeth, and her horrible yet highly amusing ugly sister, Alicia McKenzie, aka Claws. Their characters are incredibly funny at all age levels and when they start throwing some shaped on the dance floor of the ball, the audience were literally laughing out loud!
It was a fabulous start to our countdown to Christmas – and one we highly recommend!
The show is on at The Octagon Theatre Bolton until 14th January 2017 – but don’t delay in booking your tickets, as we are sure this will sell out fast!
