We booked to go to the Brewers Fayre on Southport’s beautiful seafront on a Thursday lunchtime, despite having booked a table in advance no specific table had been reserved, this is always a concern of ours having both a wheelchair and a pram in our party. Thankfully it was a nice sunny day and most customers were making the most of the vast outdoor seating on the Plaza, so we had no problems finding a table to accommodate our needs. It was however slightly disappointing that no member of staff helped us moving chairs etc… around so we could get the wheelchair and pram in.
For starters we had a prawn cocktail and a combo feast starter. Unfortunately our meal did not get off to a great start as the salad that accompanied the dish was a bit worse for wear (probably due to the hot weather) when we asked a member of staff for new lettuce it was replaced with a dish that didn’t really look much better, that being said there was a good amount of prawns and sauce. The combi feast was ok and good value for what you got, however ours did not have the chilli con carne advertised.
For main course we ate steak and peppercorn sauce which was cooked as requested, however there were not many chips served with the dish, the slow cooked lamb which was absolutely delicious and just fell off the bone and the beef lasagne which was good but we ask to get the garlic bread that accompanied the dish. All in all the main courses were substantial and good quality food for the price, the lamb was by far the winner and the rest of the menu looked equally as appetizing.
For dessert we had a very generous portion of chocolate fudge cake that was absolutely lovely and a chocolate indulgence sundae which was just the ticket on a hot summer’s day. For drinks we all had the refillable soft drinks from the machine which was great value.
The venue itself was clean and tidy and although we didn’t get the best service to start with it definitely improved as the meal progressed and I did witness members of staff being very helpful to other customers in general. There is a good play area inside for children and my 10.5 month old loved the toddler section which was clean and in generally good repair.
Whilst our meal was not perfect it was good value for money and we would probably eat here again.
