I was lucky to be chosen to review the show 80’s Mania at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable.
We arrived at the theatre and parked up in the car park which is free in the evenings. We decided to get there early and go for a drink in one of the bars which are situated along from the theatre. We then walked along to the theatre, which only took a couple of minutes, and in to the foyer to pick up our tickets. We were helped by a very friendly member of staff who advised us which door we need to be going in to get to our seats. It was very busy as usual in the theatre with people of all ages looking forward to show.
There were lots of people dressed in 80’s neon outfits which looked absolutely fab, very apt for the evening’s entertainment. We were shown to our seats, which as usual, had a very good view of the stage.
At 7.30 the stage lit up and the show began and OMG what a show it was. By the second song the audience were on their feet dancing and singing along to numbers by ‘Frankie Goes to Hollywood’ and Kim Wilde to name just a couple. The whole theatre was absolutely rocking and loving the first half of the show. The energy of the 9 vocalists and dancers on the stage was so impressive. They were made up of 7 ladies and 2 men who were either singing or dancing and sometimes both were brilliant. The costume changes and energy from these people was second to none, they had a smile on their face the whole time and you could see they also were having a great time too.
After what seemed like 5 minutes the first half was over, we made our way to the bar to get a drink, it was very busy so decided to go to the bar next door. We went back into the auditorium really excited to see the second half of the show. We weren’t disappointed, it was even better than the first half!
The changes of costume were so impressive and when they came on stage dressed as Madonna or Boy George you really thought you had gone back in time. There was not one song I didn’t know. The whole theatre was up dancing and singing from start to finish. They also had a great set of musicians to enhance the show.
I would rate this show 5 out of 5 as you could not help but have a brilliant night. I absolutely loved it.
