With Christmas fast approaching I was very pleased to be sent Blade and Rose’s ‘I believe’ long sleeve festive top for my little boy. Blade and Rose is a British family business based near the Lake District. It was originally set up by a mother on her maternity leave who wanted to increase the variety in the children’s leggings available on the market. Starting with three designs, Blade and Rose now stock worldwide! The brand is particularly well known for their brightly coloured leggings, all of which feature playful characters on their bottoms. The range (for 0 to 14 years) also has now extended to include tops, jumpers, swimwear and accessories including socks and hats. Brightly coloured stripes and cute playful characters dominate the designs.
The ‘I believe top’ is part of the brand’s Christmas collection and is available in sizes from 0-6 months to 3-4 years. The top is a beautiful vibrant red which stands out and is perfect for children who want to get into the festive spirit. The design is relatively simple but I think this works well as so often festive clothing is very OTT. A simple Christmas tree print is next to the stitched lettering spelling ‘I believe’. A small range of colours used throughout the design makes it more stylish. The top feels lovely and soft and the fabric (which is made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane) is nice and thick which seems appropriate for the winter months. As within their leggings, the addition of elastane makes the top perfectly designed to stretch slightly so great for active children, allowing them to move freely and comfortably. Two green edged poppers create additional details whilst making it easier to get the top on and off a wriggling little one. I also noticed that the insider edging of the cuffs and neckline is edged with a grey lining. For me it is elements like this where the attention to detail stands out and makes the top seem much better quality.
Having looked at the website, I loved how the top has several options of festive leggings (featuring Christmassy characters) that can bought alongside and paired to create a matching set. The rest of the Christmas collection also features jumpers, a peter rabbit festive design and Christmas socks.
Postage when buying directly from the brands website is £4.95 or free for purchases over £30. The item arrived in a branded plastic bag which was unclear whether or not it was recyclable. The inner packing was however clearly marked as recyclable. The top can be washed as usual; however it is not recommended to tumble dry. I have only had the top a few days so have not so far been able to test the durability of the bright colour but I expect that it will last well.
I cannot wait for this top to feature heavily in my little boy’s outfits over the next few weeks and would certainly recommend Blade and Rose for their unique colourful festive range and beyond for this (or next!) Christmas.
Rating: My little boy and I would give this festive top a rating of 4.5 out of 5.
