The Choir of Man at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre Review

The Choir of Man arrived at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre this evening, judging by the enormous queue to enter the theatre, they are proving a very popular act to go and see.
The Aylesbury Waterside Theatre is in the heart of Aylesbury, surrounded by plenty of parking and more than a few places to get a pre show meal or drink. Luckily for us this evening we arrived in good time and I’ve never seen it so busy for a while.
The Choir of Man is built around the premise of a pub ‘the Jungle’ if you will, where you find people from all walks of life. Pubs as we all know are a dying breed, many unable to make a living from the price of a pint. These nine young men on stage demonstrate why we all, not just men need somewhere to go, to be with friends or family, to tell stories, enjoy some music maybe and offload about life.
The Choir of Man explode onto the stage and are quite simply the most talented performers I have ever seen on stage. It’s not just their singing though, their humour, the way the mingle with the crowd, taking time to talk to as many of the audience as they can that really endears them to everyone who has been lucky enough to see the show.
They positively thrive on audience interaction and if you are lucky enough to be taken up on stage, you are made to feel very very special. For me it’s also the way they look or react to each other, they genuinely look to be the best of mates living their best life up there on stage. The stage I might add that the audience is welcomed up on to at the start and during the interval, to buy a pint from the real life working bar with the guys serving you. They also regularly bring pints of lager out to the audience, I mean what’s not to love about that!!
They cover a variety of huge blockbuster hits from Queen, Adele, Guns and Roses, Sia and many many more, their version of Pina Colada is pretty legendary, but tonight for me the most passionate emotional rendition of Luther Vandross’s Dance with my Father sung by Nimi just blew me away. He has the most amazing voice.
This is not just a show, this is an experience. Emotional, uplifting, foot stomping, full on fun that will not disappoint you. It’s genuinely the best live entertainment in a theatre out there, treat yourself and book tickets before they sell out. As if these wonderful humble men weren’t enough, they also involve local Choirs in their shows, tonight the Sing Out Choir and the Glee Choir had some 137 singers in the audience and sang with the Choir of Man a stunning version of Sia’s ‘Chandelier’.
The guys all very much deserved the standing ovation they received, the sheer joy and energy in the room was brilliant and very much a privilege to be part of. Go see them, they are incredible.
