We were delighted to arrive at The Matchstick Man and see plenty of convenient parking spaces outside the premises. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly and helpful member of staff who explained that there would be a 5 minute wait for our table. The wait was actually only a couple of minutes. She then showed us to our table. One of the adults in our party is pregnant and the staff were very thoughtful about which table they sat us at. There were plenty of staff on at the bar to take our food and drink order so we were served quickly. The child in our party was given a fun filled children’s pack which kept her occupied the whole time, in fact she did not manage to finish it.
Our food arrived very promptly. Staff were efficient in checking which sauces we wanted and that everything was ok with our meals. The food itself was a bargain:
£3.99 beef chilli nachos – Generous portion size with plenty of salsa, green jalapenos and sour cream. These did not last long as they were so hot and tasty.
£2.99 pic and mix children’s meal – The child in our party chose a double burger, rice and beans. Adding cheese to the burger was no problem. The portion size was so generous that she couldn’t finish it.
£4.99 burger, chips and a pint deal – I chose a chicken burger. The portion size was large and I did not manage to empty my plate. The burger and chips were very tasty.
£4.99 5oz rump steak, chips, peas and flat mushroom – This was the perfect portion size and the steak was cooked to perfection.
£1.69 chocolate brownie – This was demolished in a couple of minutes. The adults didn’t get a look in!
The premises themselves were clean and modern. The toilet facilities were clean and clearly regularly checked. All the staff could not do enough to help us.
Overall, there has been a unanimous decision that we cannot wait to go back again.
