We were invited to attend the launch party of KÖD, a new Danish Steakhouse opening in Soho London. On arrival there were very beautiful people being photographed outside on the steps, I must admit for a moment I wondered if we were going to feel comfortable here. Well, I really needn’t have worried, the warm atmosphere instantly put me at ease, we were greeted and welcomed in.

The ambience is created by a vibrant flash of burnt-orange seating against a black backdrop of the walls and tables, these are warmly lit and with lamps and orange neon wall art, they are interspersed with blocked glass and mirrored accent feature walls, which are softened by impressive statement plants. The burnt orange theme gives KÖD Soho its unique brand identity.

This is their second venue to open in London, the first KÖD London is based at 9A Devonshire Square and has excellent reviews for the quality of food and service, and both are born from its Scandinavian roots.

The restaurant and bar areas are spacious whilst still maintaining an intimate feel. The selection of tables and seating allows for couples or larger groups of friends to equally be accommodated.

I had come along with my daughter, as we had attended a matinee performance earlier in the day and the location of tonight’s Grand Opening could not have been more perfect as Soho is set within easy reach of London’s Theatreland which stretches into Covent Garden and its easy tube links. This will be my go-to venue for future pre or post theatre meals. I think it fits the bill equally for a cosy date night or to meet up with family and friends.

The waiting staff were all happy and friendly and really couldn’t be more attentive, bringing out a constant variety of small plates and canapés, which are a sample of the food that will be on offer; thinly cut steak and fries, taco’s, brioche burgers and a delicious tomato and basil salad, all with accompanying sauces that elevated the flavours to another level.

Although the bar area was busy, service was fast, and most importantly friendly, if the bar and waiting staff are part of the usual team, and not just hired for the event, then they are what will contribute to the success of KÖD.

The atmosphere was very cool but at the same time inclusive for all, the drinks were flowing and the music, provided by a D.J did get louder, but we were able to talk and sit back and enjoy the ambience. It was a special evening and the co-founders I understand are a group of friends, should be very proud that they have created such a place that will host many enjoyable evenings. The menu looks amazing at affordable prices for its Central London location, and the quality of food is exceptional. I look forward to planning another trip to London and bringing my husband, I think it would be a memorable experience.
