My first impression of the b.box Insulated Food Jar is how well it has been designed and made. The one I have to review is in a two-tone green; on their website, it is listed as emerald green. The jar can hold up to 335ml/11oz and claims to keep food warm for up to 5 hours and cold for up to 7 hours, and to be leak-proof.
On testing, I found that these claims were true. I filled the jar and shook it for a while, and it did not leak, so there will be no soup at the bottom of your bags. It held food at a constant temperature, warm for just under 5 hours, only losing a couple of degrees, and kept food chilled for just under 7 hours, again only losing a few degrees.
The jar is easy to clean; it comes apart really easily, the bottom and handles come off, and the inner seal is easy to remove and to replace. Being stainless steel, it does not harbour bacteria or encourage mould growth, as long as you clean after each use. It does recommend that you hand wash it only, and being stainless steel, it is not suitable for the microwave. The B.Box jar does not contain any BPA’s, PVC or Phthalates, even though certain ones are not banned. I do prefer to purchase products that do not contain anything that, over time, could contaminate my food, especially for young children. I like the fact that there is no elaborate packaging; it cuts down on wastage.
The jar is designed for 6 month-olds and older, it has been created to help promote a child’s independence. They have achieved this in two ways: one by making sure that the lid cannot be over-tightened and by giving it sturdy handles. I gave it to a friend’s child who is 2 years old, and he loved it. It was easy for him to open and hold, and he loved the spork that came with it. Having a lid that cannot be over-tightened would be beneficial to those who have a weakness in their hands as well.
The jar has been well designed, winning a Good Design Award. It has been created to grow with your child; the handles are removable, making it suitable for an older child or an adult to use. I cannot think of any negatives with this jar, it does what it says, it is a nice design and colour.
b.box is an Australian company that started in 2007. On their website, they have a fantastic range of bottles, insulated jars, roll-up travel plates and some great fun collaborations with Disney. They do deliver to the UK, however, the jar I have reviewed was supplied by Amazon.co.uk.
Amazon has a really good selection of b.box products and spare parts, such as straws, all at really good prices. If you have Amazon Prime, delivery is usually free and next-day delivery, which does make it more financially viable to order with them rather than b.box directly.
The b.box insulated 335ml jar is useful and would make a nice baby shower gift, or a part of a christening gift. It would be really useful if, like us, you spend a lot of time outdoors. I would recommend it to anyone with young children, I know that there are a lot of insulated jars on the market; however, after testing the b.box jar, I would happily purchase it and other products in their range. At £19.99, it is a fair price.
I rate the b.box 335ml insulated jar 5/5, for quality, practicality and design.
