Atticus Claw Settles a Score by Jennifer Gray Review

My 7 year old son is an avid reader and we are always on the look-out for new authors to read. I hadn’t heard of Jennifer Gray or Atticus Claw before but we really enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend it.

The book starts in London where the Cheddar family are on a trip, paid for by Mrs Tucker, the Cheddar’s housekeeper, as a reward for Atticus catching Jimmy Magpie and his gang when they swooped on the Toffly Hall Antiques Fair and tried to steal Lord and Lady Toffly’s tiara. Unfortunately whilst they are in London, Jimmy Magpie and his gang escape from prison with the help of Zenia Klob, a Russian criminal mistress of disguise. Atticus has to prevent a devious plot to steal the Crown Jewels whilst also settling a score with Ginger Biscuit, his arch rival.

The book is funny and a real page turner, the original one chapter a night that I planned to read quickly changed into 2 and even 3 as we both wanted to know what was going to happen next. The book was split into manageable chapters that were also perfect for young readers. The illustrations also helped keep my son’s interest, especially the map of The Tower of London that we referred back to whilst reading the story.

This is the second Atticus Claw book but you don’t need to have read the first book to enjoy it. My son has already asked if we can buy the first book and there is also a new book coming out in August 2013 that he is also keen to buy.
