Astrosaurs vs Cows in Action The Dinosaur Moo-tants by Steve Cole Review

Reviewed by Natasha Kolb

Evil is afoot in the Jurassic Quadrant. Terrifying mutant dinosaurs threaten to wipe out humanity… dinosaurs with twitching claws, razor-sharp teeth and… deadly udders?!

These aren’t mutants – they’re MOO-tants!

This is a deadly mission for a new superteam – one which can travel across space AND time. Action, danger (and a few cups of tea) are in store when the ASTROSAURS meet the COWS IN ACTION!

But will the new friends be able to defeat their biggest, scariest, dairyest enemy yet? Or will the moo-tants destroy TWO of the bravest crime-fighting teams the universe has ever seen?

Two weeks ago, I had never heard of Steve Cole or his range of Astrosaurs book, and yet now my family and I are hooked on them and seem to find a Steve Cole book everywhere we look! My 8 year old Ethan even chose one of the Astrosaurs series to bring home from his school library. If you knew my son, you would realise what a massive thing this is with Ethan being a typical reluctant reader and generally avoiding books altogether!

The cover of this book, “Astrosaurs vs Cows In Action” is vibrant and eye catching with funny illustrations ideal for interesting children.

We began by reading this book altogether with even my 6 year old daughter enjoying it,  but I soon discovered it had found its way into Ethan’s room for him to read by himself, again this is a unusual thing for him to do!

This book kept him engaged throughout due to its action packed contents, detailing captain Teggs Stegosaurs adventures with the crew of the DSS Sauropod! This book is quite thick so is quite good read for younger children just beginning to choose to read for pleasure. The text is large enough so that each page isn’t too daunting, making it easier to read independently. I was also impressed when I noticed that there was at least one illustration on every double page. This is great for a larger book and a credit to the author and publishers to realise that the audience for this story would still enjoy books with illustrations too!

This book has definitely made a Steve Cole fan out of my son who will now be collecting Astrosaur books!

Steve Cole’s website is also worth a visit for young fans offering the chance to collect Astrosaur trading cards!  Priced at £6.99 this would of course make a perfect Christmas present for the young reader, probably most suited for boys but I don’t think exclusively as girls would enjoy the world of Astrosaurs and their action packed adventures too! This gets 5 stars from us and my thanks for the Christmas present ideas!
