Asia Lounge Bedford Review

Asia Lounge

Reviewed by Alexina Golding

We recently decided to go for a meal at the Asia Lounge restaurant in Bedford. Walking up to the restaurant you could smell the spices and aroma of Indian, inside the door is a takeaway area.

The restaurant being upstairs, which thinking about it now, I didn’t see a lift so unsure if access would be available for parents with pushchairs or wheelchair users or if you are unable to walk up three flights of stairs.

A member of staff came down straight away and showed us upstairs, the decor isn’t of your usual Indian taste, we were seated by a window nearer the back of the restaurant and near the toilets, although due to the design of the toilets you don’t feel like you are sat in front of toilet doors. This did not deter from the meal, even as people were walking past our table.

There were a few diners when we arrived, 7 p.m. on a Wednesday, the music was not too heavy or taking over, so there was a general hum and atmosphere.

We were shown to our table and was asked for drinks and if we would like popadoms straight away. The popadoms were a fusion of Indian and Thai which made a nice difference, and served in a traditional basket, the dips were tasty.

We decided to have a starter the presentation of the food was pretty, with drizzle sauces on the plate, making the experience once again different to what I am used to. We had a duck starter and chicken legs, stuffed with cashew nuts and cheese on top. Both were delicious, but the cheesy chicken legs were fantastic.

For our main meals we decided to have Thai meals from the menu.

There was a wait between courses, but not too long. The restaurant was filling up by now. Service was still high, the waiters were attentive without being overly fussy.

The meals came out, our plates being warmed as were the dishes they were in, it meant the meal stayed warm for longer.

Portion size of the main meals for both was sufficient without being overly so, although I couldn’t finish mine.

After dinner we did have a wait to ask for the bill, once attention was called, again they were attentive.

We highly recommend the Asia Lounge and would go again. The bill came with a questionnaire to fill out and a pen. Also the bill was split between how many diners, which made it easier to calculate. This is often a bug bear of mine, trying to work out who had what… so if you were going with friends and paying for what you had, you would still have to work it out, but if not it was there already split.

I am looking forward to my next visit, even though it is quite a way to go. If I lived nearer I would definitely be a regular.
