I recently had the opportunity to attend the Joyfully Well Anxiety Mastery Coaching Program developed and delivered by Esme Coss. This was a 4 week online program that was designed to teach attendees about EFT tapping. EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. Something I knew nothing about ahead of the sessions, so I was curious about what it was and what it could do for me. I learnt that EFT is a body tapping technique that focuses on the Meridian energy points of the body as outlined in Chinese medicine. It’s acupuncture without the needles! It’s been backed by science as working with the vascular system and studies have shown it to be more beneficial, in some cases by other well-known therapies such as CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy).

I was all in – anything to help maintain mental fitness! The sign-up process was straightforward and I received a guide and simple instructions about the session. It was to be a safe space on Zoom; where I could choose cameras on or off and it was important to be in an uninterrupted place to give it your full attention. You were instructed to have your hands free, as you would be using them!

Esme was so welcoming and friendly. She is a very calming person to be around and instantly put everyone at ease. We started the process by rating our anxiety at that moment. This would allow us to measure our progress as we went along. We learnt that tapping has many benefits. It can be used to reduce stress levels, or for specific issues – both mentally and physically or to help you shift into a better mindset. Esme skilfully used her own experience and examples to demonstrate when EFT could be applied in real life.

By tapping you create new neural connections which can be used to reset your triggers and decrease cortisol levels by up to 43%. I found the technique to be hugely effective and can even be done when you are maybe short on time or discretely in a public place – which Esme takes you through. We followed the technique as part of the session. With each session, we looked at different ways to focus it. At the end of each session I felt so relaxed and calm – my initial anxiety rating having reduced each time. I found it to be an incredible tool, not only for myself but also something I have since shown my children.

The full course comprises of 4×1 hour sessions, a 1-hour one-to-one therapy session with Esme, message support and the Anxiety Mastery guide for you to refer to whenever you want. I felt like I was having a therapy session each week where I got to turn off my brain for a little bit – make that body-mind connection again and focus inwards; something that is so hard to do in this day and age. If you are unable to make a session recordings are available as well for attendees, which is really helpful to revisit anything you want to remind yourself of.

The program costs £144 which is much more affordable than a counselling session and gives you tools for life. It can be accessed through the Joyfully Well website: https://joyfullywell.co.uk/ or the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/JoyfullyWellCoach

Esme is also running a FREE course this summer in Supporting Young Minds: EFT Tapping for Mental and Emotional Wellbeing starting on Friday 30th August. So if you have a young person between 4-18 who could benefit then this is not to be missed! Places can be booked here: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/joyfullywell/1313588

EFT is a useful tool to help with mental health and I believe everyone should be taught it! I give the Esme’s Joyfully Well sessions 5/5. I highly recommend them to anybody, it’s easy to access, really affordable and it’s great for your mental well-being – something we need more of these days. What’s not to love!
