Worsley Old Hall Review

Reviewed by Michelle Wright

Today we arranged a visit to review Worsley Old Hall, which is part of The Brewers Fayre group.

We decided to go on a rainy day for their lunch time menu. Worsley Old Hall is such a beautiful building, steeped in history and located in the stunning grounds of the Marriott Golf Course in Worsley. In the entrance area I was really interested to see a notice board, which explained the history of the building and its owners. This grade II listed building was at once the home of James Brindley, the architect who went on to design The Bridgewater canal. I thought the inclusion of this notice board was a really lovely touch and very informative.

Our party consisted of three; myself and my parents – and although we arrived early for the lunch menu we were shown to our table and were given the menus to look at. Brewers Fayre normally have the system of ordering and paying for food at the bar, however the Worsley Old Hall have been trialling table service which from our experience today was working very well.

The atmosphere was very relaxed and as it turned midday the restaurant soon filled up with hungry customers! The staff were excellent and very attentive. We ordered our food and drinks and the food was in front of use in no time at all. For starters we ordered stuffed potato skins and also a prawn salad. Our table was cleared quickly ready for the main courses to arrive… a mixed grill and two lamb shanks, which were absolutely delicious. We were all getting very full now (!) and could only manage ice cream for dessert – a sign of a good meal in my opinion! We’d had a really lovely meal and left feeling very full and decidedly sleepy!

If you are considering the venue for a special event or function, there are 5 rooms to choose from, and you can have catering for up to 30 people.

If you are thinking about Christmas at Worsley Old Hall, they have developed a fabulous range of Christmas menus… covering festive lunch time menus where adults can have 2 courses from £7.99 and children can eat 2 courses for £4.99. And of course they have devised special menus for Christmas Day and Boxing Day starting at £19.99 per head for an adult.

And this year, Worsley Old Hall will be holding a Christmas Market. Here you will find local businesses selling their products from jewellers to cake makers – pop down on 12th Nov between 1pm and 7pm and start your Christmas shopping locally!
