Being a mum of 2 young children, I am always on the lookout for something different to entertain them, so I was really excited to learn I had been allocated the Tomy Toomies Jurassic World Spin & Hatch Dino Eggs Play set.
The play set arrived fairly quickly and was well packaged in an outer cardboard box. The actual product was really attractively packaged, so you could see exactly what you were getting, with most of the main parts (except the lids to the egg shells) fully visible, through clear plastic. There was even an option to try it out, before removing from the packaging.

There are 5 beautifully brightly coloured dinosaur eggs (orange, blue, green, purple and pink), which make the play-set brilliant for boys and girls alike. In each different coloured egg shell, there is a brightly coloured baby dinosaur; T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Raptor & Pteranodon. It is ‘Jurassic Park’ branded on the incubator and has the Jurassic Park T-Rex skeleton logo embossed on top of the yellow button and on top of each egg shell. It all fits together into the incubator, which provides a neat way of storing the toy when not in use, but keeping all relevant parts together.
When you shake each dino egg, there is a rattle sound (all dinosaurs make the same sound). From reading about the product, the manufacturer’s advise that if you shake the egg, you will hear the dinosaur growl; personally I think this is pushing it a bit, as it’s just a rattle. But, I guess it relies on the child using their imagination.

Once I’d removed the toy from the packaging, the kids were raring to have a go! My 4 year old son helped my 13 month old daughter match up the dinosaur egg shells with the matching coloured egg shell tops (as she’s not quite ready for colouring matching yet.) Although to be fair, the lids are a universal fit, so it’s not essential that you match them with the correct colour, but that’s definitely part of the learning for a bit later on.
They then loaded them all into the incubator and she pressed the big , yellow button, which made the eggs spin around. The harder and faster you push the button, the more dino babies you can get to fall out and hatch. It was an instant hit, they both absolutely loved it. In fact its been been played with every morning and evening since it arrived, with both of them playing nicely together (for a change). You can’t ask for more than that!

I really loved the concept of this toy from the perspective of the logic and problem solving that it offers for babies from 12 months old. It’s a fun way for them to learn colouring matching and is a great way of developing hand-eye co-ordination. I also loved the look of the product, the use of such bright colours is always great, particularly for the little ones. My kids really loved it and I would definitely recommend it to my friends with small children. It is marketed at age 12 months +, which I think is perfect for it.
The play set retails for £16, which is possibly slightly on the higher end of the scale, but as it’s such a lovely product and was such a hit with my children, I would be happy to buy it for that price. I think it would make a perfect Easter gift for a child, particularly if you are trying to find an alternative to a chocolate egg, as let’s face it, no one wants their little ones being swamped with chocolate.
