There’s nothing better than a hot cup of tea, coffee or maybe even a hot chocolate on a cold winters day. This set of Denby Pottery Mugs are perfect for just that – I tried them out for my morning cuppa and was really happy with them.

They are a good size, with a specification volume of 410 mL, so perfect for your morning cup of tea. What struck me was the quality and thickness of the mug, with a very sturdy handle that is a classic and a small shape – not the easiest to hold but works aesthetically for the style of mug. The mugs are not too heavy, even when filled with your favourite drink and they are a great size for placing on a coaster, stacking in the cupboard and displaying in a cabinet.

The design is rustic with a classic neutral set of colours and the ridged walls of the mug make them comfortable to hold. It is a design that looks as if it has been professionally thrown on a pottery wheel and you can imagine the ridges being formed in just that way. These mugs were hand-crafted in Derbyshire and they really celebrate the British craftsmanship of the traditional potter with its simplistic design and hand-thrown features. Despite this, both mugs in the set are identical in design with only minor differences in the paint and finish. I like this as it adds to the hand-crafted feel and gives each mug some uniqueness. The mugs would fit perfectly in a kitchen or dining room. They can sit on display and adequately fit into that modern but rustic kitchen look.

Denby as a company is known for the quality of its tableware and cookware and this does not disappoint. In addition to the aesthetics, the mugs are also microwave, dishwasher, oven and freezer safe. So in your busy day, when you forget to drink your hot beverage, you are able to safely stick it in the microwave to re-heat it and then give the mugs a thorough clean in the dishwasher. Using them in the oven or freezer is not something I have required however it is reassuring to know they have the quality and robustness of the rest of the Denby range.

These mugs come as a set of two in a well protected box that had no signs of damage and arrived quickly in the post. The cardboard box that they came in is fully recyclable and no plastic packaging was used. Denby also have other items that can be purchased in the same collection including bowls, plates, diffuser pots and candles.

Overall, I would personally recommend these mugs for the traditional pottery design and their quality. They are currently available direct from Denby Pottery for £32. This is not the cheapest for two mugs however I think it is worth it for the quality that you receive. These are the kind of product that you won’t need to replace for a long time with such great quality and a timeless design.
