Do your little ones have key pieces of evidence or secret documents that require storing in a safe place? Well using the three detectives digital safe by Thames and Kosmos could be the answer for your little ones to reliably protect these valuable objects from robbers and spies. I was lucky enough to recently be given the opportunity to review this safe and having a 5-year-old who has an ever-growing love for all things spy related and is forever on numerous spy missions (thanks to the numerous spy you-tube channels that have dominated our Tele over the last few months!) I knew that this would be right up his street in order to help him complete his multiple top-secret spy missions around the house with both myself and his older brother tagging along to join in!
The safe is black and grey in colour with a grey and red number code pad (with numbers 1-4 on it) and is quite a generous size at 21 cm x 16 cm X 12 cm. My initial impression of it is that it is very reminiscent to the kind of safes that you would likely find in your typical hotel room whilst on holiday (but obviously made of plastic!) It requires 3 AAA batteries which are not included but are easily installed by an adult, and again the functionality of the safe is fairly straightforward with a pre-set code to open the safe initially. You are then able to set any 4-digit code to lock it thereafter (but don’t worry if your little ones manage to forget the code or set in incorrectly having locked their favourite toy or teddy in there – all is thankfully not lost as the safe comes with a very clever emergency door opener provided at the bottom of the safe (Thank goodness for that I hear you say!)
Having never heard of the three detectives Justus, Peter and Bob I followed the website link on the packing which led me to the Thames and Kosmos website which told us all about the characters and that there is also a selection of audiobooks, e-books to purchase along with various spy tools to purchase such as an alarm system, toolkit, listening spy and a voice changer – and with my little one’s birthday just around the corner I feel that these will be just as loved as the safe to further enhance his spy mission games – his favourite one is me or his brother hiding a toy/objects in the safe and then him having to try and figure out what item it is whilst only answering yes/no to his questions!
My son liked it so much he wrote his own story about Justus, Peter and Bob and acted it out in the garden. I think he wants to be the next James Bond now and everything now is a mystery for him to solve.
I would rate the safe 4/5 due to the fact that I felt that it was a little bit expensive for what it is.
